hmmm I may be jumping to conclusions here to suspect maybe you are indian or pakistani.
In Britain at the moment there is a great deal of concern about the number of immigrants from india and pakistan, and when I say concern you may read it hostility.
The social demographic and political changes arising from a large population change can cause resentment amongst the existing population.
Add to that the situation with terrorism these days and the suspicion of muslims middle eastern and subcontinental peoples and you have an underlying hostility against foreigners from those lands, though this does not entirely explain why you say the hostility is greater in Britain than canada or USA

The English are not like that for the most part, but you have to remember that many words used by the English have very different meanings than in American English. You could insult someone there just by not knowing the language differences.
You will also find that where ever you go in the world, regardless of language spoken, there are always some folk who do discriminate against anyone foreign to their country. This includes some people in the US.

what movies have you been watching? i really dont know anybody that says 'one' in that context anymore except for a comedienne that mocks the Queen...the English would take the p*ss out of anything...including ourselves...we mock ourselves and our own accents and cultures and others on a regular basis... we can laugh at ourselves...get a sense of humour and come back to England...
the irony about this is that you now have everybody on here slating and slagging the English for being intolerant! WOW! how stupid are some people? can they not hear the irony of their own words...also,no ones forcing anyone to come here or live here so if you do it cant be that bloody bad so stop being such a bunch of whining hypocrites...i live in England but i used to live in Ireland(9 years) and before that as a child in Spain...one thing i couldnt stand about both places was in Ireland they slagged the English a lot and were very intolerant of any immigrants but yet they themselves have successfully relocated all over the world including England?! in Spain many English people dont bother to learn Spanish and just do the English thing(well live in bloody England then!)...where is tolerance anyways?...a question about intolerance by the English has provoked a huge amount of intolerance about the English...hmmmmm...again the word hypocrite springs to mind...

That all depends on where you're from and your accent. Generally foreigners seem to learn US English which is different enough to be noticeable. When you say you're discriminated against, do people throw rocks at you or just have a hard time understanding?

Its only because your accent shows that you are a foreigner so people tend to feel less warmed to you.
But i hope you weren't treated horribly in the UK.
People do treat you differently because of accents because it also shows your class and wealth, when i went on holiday this summer all the native merchandise sellers kept rallying around me because i was English and later found out it was because they thought i was rich and had money to spend or to give them.
Its a shame that things like this does happen but appears as though it will carry on like this for centuries to come.

People focus on how to speak it because english language is the hardest language to learn because we have so many words and different spellings sounds for words. a word could be a noun and a idea like thought is an idea and verb i think

as our English is nothing alike any other
