I have got windows media player (11) it plays (meg) files but it will not play (avi) files even though it should. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this problem. I just keeps on saying windows is not responding.

This will almost definately be one of two things...

1. A corrupt video file (does happen from time to time, check your source to be certain its ok)

2. A codec is required. I have often come accross files claiming to be avi that are infact things like divx mpeg4. Try pull down divx codec and play it. Another popular one is xVid.

Windows Media Player doesn't support AVI files so it wouldnt play. Try DivX player.

Find tools menu on media player and go into file types and make sure .avi has a check mark. Sometimes it isnt.
