I believe they should not be encouaged. There are many agencies with the abilities to deal with their specific problems. Chances are the 5 bucks you give out will be used for alcohol or drugs. Give your money to a good non-profit in your area. They are better equipped to help these folks than we are. If it makes you feel good giving a buck or two, by all means go for it. Just know that your cash will be headed to the local liquor store or drug dealer. Or you could just buy them a Big Mac.

Beggars are all human beings, and yes we all beg some sort of a God, those that have think they deserve, those that don't have think that they are not worthy. We are all worthy and if that is what they do then more power to them and I hope that someone gives them what they want or need because we all don't have limosines.
That is part of perception we see someone driving a brand new vehicle and living in a real nice home and neighborhood not realizing that they rent and have payments so we want to give them things like nice jobs and other niceties, we see those that look poor and think they should have what they get because they are lazy and that is what they deserve.
This world needs to change its perceptions about human beings, we are all equal under Gods eyes and what you do for the least of them is what those that are Christians must realize they are supposedly doing for God. It says do not ignore the homeless, the strangers, the hungry, the children, ect. because angels some times come by them and we are unaware.
We never know in life what will or can happen from day to day so it might be you begging one day or that person you might have just given to might turn around to buy that billion dollar lottery ticket.
This is America, and we live by the stroke of luck here in many cases. Those that have should realize there blessings, but they too should realize their responsibility to their fellow human beings. The more we have the more we owe not the less, and that don't just mean to the bank or the mortgage company.

See no one is beggar by choice. None of us would ever wish to swicth place with a beggar. Life is so tough for some people.
Giving alms may or may not be the final answer. But then the question is what u, in ur capacity, can do?
If u can spare some money, then why not?
If u can share food, why not?
If u can offer a job, why not?
We all beg from God, but God made some people to beg from human beings.
Yes, instead of ignoring, do think about thier rehabilitation.

We have a case here where I live. The police investigated this man that had been panhandling in the same spot for a year. They found out he earned some odd thousand dollars that year, more than what the investigators were making. When they arrested him for fraud, he told them that making money that way was easier than getting a real job. Also, a lot of "beggars" buy alcohol and cigarettes with the money you give them. So if I give them something, I give them a bag of food, water, and toiletries-then I know how my money was spent. If they really need help, they accept it. I have had some refuse because they just want beer.

This is sad, I guess I would ask them why they are on the street to start with and buy them a meal or something. I think it's sad people are in that state because of some unseen force. I think most people didn't want or don't want to be on the street, it just happens like the people who lose jobs and have nothing, the people who have problems and take alcohol or drugs to forget them and become addicts, and then the people who just plain don't care anymore. Society should be more willing to help people rather than let them get on the streets, there should be more jobs, incentives to help self esteem and better economics so people have money they can save for bad times instead of just barely making ends meet then some disaster takes it all away and they find themselves with nothing.

I use to be a real softy when it came to beggars. Then one evening when I lived in L.A. I say a "blind" man selling pencils to make money. I of course put money in his cup not taking a pencil. A bit later I was on the other side of the street coming out of a store. I saw a limousine pull in front of the beggar. He immediately got up, grabbed his stuff and got in. He didn't even stumble or use his cane. That sob could see! This is the land of opportunity. There are jobs if you want them. No one has to beg unless they choose to. Now I give my money to my church or people that I KNOW are in need.

i don't like the fact that someone asks me for $ much less they act like they deserve it I've never been on the streets but have come very close a time or two i don't know what id do its hard to get a job if you are not clean shaven and have clean cloths etc i once thought of trying to take in a homeless women thinking that if i were to give her a home and take care of her she wouldn't let any thing or body mess with her new found wealth it was just a thought id probably act on it if ever given the chance our government should provide some sort of assistance to people that are down and out instead of sending all that $ over seas to rebuild and care for people that are not even of the u.s.a.

I don't agree with begging for a living under any circumstances although I have no problem with beggars. I never give them money and usually just ignore them. The only time I have a problem with them is when they try to guilt me into giving them money eg I don't have any food, i'm cold, I have children to feed etc. As far as i'm concerned they have no right to my money unless I choose to give it to them. Enforced charity is just another term for slavery.

Depends on whether they seem to be faking it or not.
Sometimes I see young men who can easily get a job, sitting and begging.
