I was just wondering why it is that so many users of this "questions" site do not want to be contacted either by email or Messenger. Surely if they have a valid question, and yes, they of course can just take the answers posted, but a little interaction, sometimes, is so much more productive. Does anyone have any comments that they might like to post on this. Thank you..

Sedzani..........if you want to be contacted, you only have to pst an email address or IM id, this is my point.

It would seem that only a few minutes into asking this question, that many people are coming up with "excuses" ie. email gets jammed up etc., well emails can be deleted and it just seems that people who ask questions are not prepared to expand on them to obtain a more fuller answer.

So many people think that their privacy is or will be invaded, you only have to walk down the street and all of that could happen. This is a public site, and as such should be run as such, ie. answerers as well as questioners should be subject to further questions, if in order to answer the original question it is warranted.

I've actually had dumb people contact me by email and then when I tried to reply could not. Seems like if they wanted a response they would allow replies, but I guess not.
And I thought I was stupid.

First, many may not notice these functions are available.
Second, some may not wish to be disturbed while answering questions(one reason I have not turned on my IM function)
Third, when I began to accept email, I had the worst kind of insults, slams and slurs to the point where I almost turned it off
Sometimes, I feel that Judasrabbi has the right idea and he just comes, does and leave (I use him as an example, for I know he has opted against IM or email)

yes, but you can't write to me..... :^) People like their privacy and let's face it there are a lot of people who do not know how to treat other people when it is not a face to face interaction.
The internet and IM and EMail has leaded towards a trend of people being liberated to express themselves BUT to an awful extent....give you an example. In a chat room how many times do you come across a complete idiot that distrupts the entire virtual room because he or she is being a complete ***....now that same person I doubt would act that way in public....but becasue they can hide behind a virtual curtain they act totally aggressive and disregard anyone and everyones rights.....and 99% of the time get away with it....
given the above scenario why would I or anyone else want to get virtually stalked by such people? just my opinion and I'm sure there are others out there. hopefully mine is the best ! :^)

I don't want my privacy invaded by numerous e's, it's happen before. I would like to make further contact with some people that I've answered because I want to know what happen.
I don't want anyone to take my advise without further comment or interaction. It's a hard decision one way or the other.

Well, that's not really a weird question. I think the reason that people don't want other people to contact them is that there are sooo many freaks on sites like this that people don't want to interact with one. I mean, I have no idea who you are. For all I know, you could be a pedafile. (I'm not saying that you are) So, I really think people just want to stay safe.

There was a girl the other day who tried to contact me on my messenger. Many users don't want to be contacted like that because they don't know these people on a level where they want to give out that kind of info and have everyone loading up their email space, when they can come here and answer questions.

I posted a question a while back and was so impressed with the helpful anwers I got that I wanted to communicate with those who responded and thank them personally. I simply wanted to tell each one individually how much I appreciated their response, and mention which bit of their answer I had found specially helpful. I found that most of them had not enabled e-mail contact, and the couple I was able to e-mail, never acknowledged it. I think maybe there's a lot of nervousness out there - people who feel "antsy" about possibly opening the door to the "wrong" kind of person. It was a little f rustrating, but I can't say I blame them .

If there is a bad person who frequents this site..... all kinds of things could transpire.
You don't know who you can't see, you can't see who you don't know........
If people need more they can go to counselors to have their questions answered,
This site is for blowing off steam, sharing and just socializing to open ears... people who have had experiences in life and want to share. Most people like their privacy and want to help without drawing attention to themselves.....

Perhaps they just do not want to hear what other people have to say about their opinions. Me personally, I have mine available, sometimes people want to contact you in regards to what you have said. Either they agree and want to thank you, or they disagree and wish to voice their opinions. I think it is only fair to allow this. But, I welcome both, sometimes I may learn something new. However, I value and respect others opinions and by interacting, I may learn or come to a new understanding. i however, can only speak for myself. God bless

it's not strange at all. some people like just trying to be careful. look what's happening here in Yahoo Answers, eventhough it started as a clean, normal Q&A website, it was still invaded by some crazy people who thinks everything is a joke!
