In most states, the Humane Society or Animal Control will do it for free if there is a need, like the cat is sick and there's nothing that can be done. Emotionally, it is extremely hard to do. 2 years ago our cat got very sick and we never knew what was going on. Turned out he had lung cancer and by the time we found it, it was too late. He was in horrible shape, not eating, not drinking, constantly panting and puking and after LONG discussions with the vet and other cat owners, we did one of the hardest things in the world and took him to Animal Control to be put to sleep. They did it for free and gave us time to be with him first, even offered us to sit with him but I just couldn't watch him die. Most places won't let an animal suffer because you can't pay the bill but that's only if the animal is severely sick or injured. If you just don't like the cat anymore, take it to the Humane Society and put it up for adoption. They won't ask questions.

Shop around. I have seen the cost go over $150. What a scam.

The cost varies, but it is the HARDEST thing emotionally to do! I wouldn't recommend it unless it is absolutely necessary.

Is this your cat? Do u love him/her? If so, please make sure they're comfortable. Anyway, go to the Humane Society, I think it's ab $48 in the US.
