She takes Proin pills, one pill, two times a day, and this does help. However, she still leaks a little bit. It is weird though, the leakage is "clear," not yellow. The vet thought she was leaking urine. I'm not positive it is urine since it's not yellow, although the Proin helps her. Any ideas? What can I do for her to eliminate this problem? I love my dog to death, but I cannot have her ruining my carpeting in my home and our furniture. Please help me!!!!!!! I also really cannot afford these super expensive outlandish vet bills. Last time we had her at the vet it cost almost $300.00.

This is a really common problem in spayed female dogs, and is often quite easy to manage. Your vet is probably right about it being urine...the colour depends on how concentrated it is. Plus the Proin acts on the urethral sphincter, so if it's helping a bit, again it probably is urine.

As to how to manage it-

Is Proin the only drug she's been on? If it is, talk to your vet about trying diethylstilboestrol (DES) or pseudoephidrine.

Also, it is possible to combine drugs- DES and phenylpropanolamine (the active drug in Proin) together often work in dogs that are incontinent on either of these drugs seperately. Again, talk to your vet.

Hope you find something that works...I have a dog who has occasional leaks (she is on Propalin syrup, which is also phenylpropanolamine). We have slate floors so it's not too much of an issue, but I know how frustrating it can get.

Ah, old age isn't so good either for us or our pets, lol. This is a very common problem in female dogs. All our female dobermans developed the same problem as they aged.

Our vet perscribed Proin and it does help, but nothing seemed to "stop" the leakage. Yes, it's urine. I have heard from some of our friends in Doberman Rescue that there are alternative treatments (vitamins, herbs) that help. Perhaps you can look on-line and find some more information (sorry I don't know more about it).

I'd be sure to check with your vet for his/her opinion before you start using any other treatments.

I used to put the "pants" on our females with a sanitary napkin inside to prevent them from dripping all over the house. It's a bit of a pain but it's better than having your home and furniture ruined.

Best of luck.

Talk to your vet. The Proin works but sometimes the doseage needs to be adjusted and sometimes they may need another drug with it. DES is one of those that our vet uses. With dogs that the Proin do not owrk they use DES.
It takes time to find the right doseage.
In the mean time I would get a pair of the doggie hot pants at PetSmart or Pet Co. you stick a minni pad in them and the dog can comfortably wear them all the time if necessary. You change the pad and the pants are washable.
I have a denim pair for my weim. She loves them.
She wore them when she was in heat before being spayed.
She will let you put them on her and wear them now even though she does not need them she likes them. She is a little strange.
Good luck. with your dog.

this is a very common problem. yes, it's urine. there is no cure for this. i had a dobie that did this for 8 yrs. proin helps, but there is nothing to totally stop it. you might try what i did and buy huggies pull-ups to fit her. cut a hole for her tail to go through. don't leave these on her 24-7, she could get urine scald if you do. this is just to help. also if you keep her hair long, you'll need to keep it clipped short. its an unfortunate part of aging and do your best to keep her dry and comfortable for the remainder of her life.

dogs are in comparison to people. they do no longer want variety of their meals recurring. The dogs won't get tired of the kibble in case you have feeding circumstances. do no longer depart the meals down all day. call out "dinner" once you place the bowl down and the dogs gets right into a wholesome ingesting recurring. There are long lists of human meals that are POISON to dogs. in case you insist on feeding the dogs handmade meals, please look up the meals which you may sidestep. basically some off the suitable of my head to sidestep are: mushrooms, nuts, peas, grapes, onions, chocolate (of direction), etc. there are a number of categories of human meals to sidestep, so I recommend googling it for a greater suitable record.
