The rarest flower problably has not been discovered yet: In the UK the rarest is our form of the ladies slipper orchid - Orchids are the largest family so it may well be an orchid as well - a year or two ago BBC wildlife reported that a new orchid had been discovered then days later the area was ransacked by an orchid hunter - so it could be that species of amazonon Slipper orchid

Raflesia is the biggest but it is certainly not the rarest! Just like animals, plant species are rapidly disappearing and many are now extinct. It's difficult to say what is the rarest flower, as it is to name the rarest animal, and it would change almost daily as more species become extinct. Some species, such as Raflesia; or the Scottish Primrose and Twinflower in the UK, are called keystone species - these are rare species that are highlighted by conservationists, charities and the media to try to encourage their protection (this is done for animals too, eg. the Tiger, Panda, Whale etc.), these are not selected because they are the rarest but because they are charismatic so more people will like them, and protecting their environment will mean protecting many other species too.

If you're interested in botanical conservation, there are many plant seed banks that store seeds of plants (or sometimes living tissues if seeds don't keep well or for non-flowering plants) to be grown in the future if the species becomes extinct, but it is not possible to do this for all species because there are too many of them to collect seeds from them all, so sadly flowers are still becoming extinct - often without anyone even knowing about it.

the rarest of them all is the cycad encephalartos woodii.
theres is only one male found in the wild in southern africa.
the cycad is not a flowering plants it is a close relative to the conifers.
