Probably the same way most people convert to a new religion: they believe the metaphysical claims it makes are true; everything else, for good or ill, follows after and is subordinate to that. If you were convinced that Islam was true, the fact it conflicted with your own self-interests likely doesn't matter. Atheists like myself often go on and on about how reality doesn't have a personal bias, you either except the universe as it is or you don't. The same reasoning can be applied to strongly-held religous beliefs: if Islam perfectly maps onto reality, denying the faith because it's misoygnisitic is akin to denying evolution because you hate the notion of not being specially created in God's image; the belief precedes the consequences of believing, not the other way around.

Headgear keeps you warm. You lose most of your body heat through your head. I wear a hat when it is cold and no hat when it is hot so I don't sweat. I feel sorry for the Muslim women with their head scarves in 90 degree weather, but that is a religious choice some of them choose to make. I went to a party last night at friends who are Muslims. I have known them for 4 years and she has never worn a head covering. It is a choice.

I'm not sure I really understand u here Keyser buddy. I mean this is sort of polite considering the previous 'bag over head' thing but it is kinda void of intelligence. Passive apology or what??
Chastity is stressed in Islam more than Christianity, same as for liquor and other issues. Our women wear that as a token of commitment and grattitude. We love Islam and we obey God because we believe that God knows best.

The wearing of the veil by Muslim women is an illogical premise to claim that they are inferior to men. It is more appropriate to indict a society of female exploitation if it tolerates pornography rather than if it enforces the veil. Given that Allah is neither male nor female, given that He does not endear people to Himself based on their gender, given that the Creator cares about all of us male or female, given that the sexual and violent drive of men is stronger than that of women...given all this, it is illogical to cast a negative light on the following injunctions contained in the Qur'an (translation)

[33:59] O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not be annoyed...

[24:30-31] Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands...

On this misconception, there is a great deal more to write, most of it showing how current practices in many Muslim lands go against what the Qur'an and Sunnah have ordained, lands in which women are treated as property (unIslamic), are not educated (unIslamic), are forbidden their economic rights (unIslamic), and more. On this point in particular, we encourage everyone to consult the Qur'an and Sunnah before incriminating Islam. Always remember that Islam is a complete way of life from the Creator, and that Muslims are people who claim to follow that way of life. A Muslim may claim to follow Islam, but be wrong.

I've wondered about that myself, especially why Christian women don't cover their hair, in light of Paul's command:

"If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head."

1 Corinthians 11:6 (New International Version)

Why do not all Christian women dress like Mary the mother of Jesus, and like nuns?

All Muslim women? I know plenty who don't.

Besides, if you're going to bring weather into it, have you seen what it's like in the part of the world where Islam originated?

Because it is a rule of their religion, they choose to wear it because they want to follow their religion properly, for same reason they choose to fast in Ramadan, not to drink alcohol and to turn to Mecca for prayer, for example.
And by the way not all Muslim women choose to cover their hair, it always depends on how seriously they want to follow the rules of their religion.

I'm not a Muslim and am rarely without headgear. Mostly because I'm a dirty hippie and I like to wear bandannas, unless it's cold enough for a fuzzy hat.
