I´m 23 and German. At the moment I´m working in France.
One of my colleagues (he´s about 27 or 28 and from England) all of a sudden asked me how old I am while we had a discussion with another colleague (so there were not just me and him).
Is this just a try to be polite?
But why then does he ask such a queer question?? HELP!!

It is only ladies who are a little more mature who's ages should not be asked, unless of course their conversation invites it.

I hate being asked my age when it sounds like an insult, but often offer my age because I confuse people with my outlook on life. I am 51 and have recently added the fact to my profile because I specially confuse men!

They can ask but you don't have to tell!!

What's queer about it? He's just making conversation.

I think it's a little impolite to EVER ask a lady's age but then I am old fashioned.

It's no more impolite than asking a woman what colour underwear she's got on today. There are some things you just have to know.

depends on the maturity of the 16 year old but I don't think it is wrong, 3 years is fine. I think a guy in his mid 20's with a 16 year old would be wrong!!

Wow, who said tradition is dead? Yes, in Olde Worlde England it was impolite to ask a woman her age. And despite how contemporary I think my beliefs are I STILL wouldn't ask a woman her age.

Some girls may find this impolite. What is better is to try and guess how old she is, but guess younger than you think. First up, she will probably be flattered, and then might reveal her age to you.

I like to know the age of the people I'm talking to, it can help to get a feeling of their experiences, are they young or old enough to remeber certain things etc
