Will not stop meowing. I put toys out for him, I have food out, and I play with him when I can. Even when I play with him, he meows and purrs at the same time. Is he just really really homesick for his family? He has only been with me for 4 days, is this normal? If so, when should I expect this behavior to stop?

Good question!

People who say an 8 week old kitten is about to spray know absolutely nothing about cats! He's too young.

The tail in the air means he's happy to see you. The meowing could be that he's lonesome (the person who said it's a big scarey world out there for a kitten in a new home is right). He may also be "talking" to you. Some kitties do that, and it's adorable. Some breeds are known for this, while others just mostly talk softly to communicate with you.

Give him a little time - it won't be long before he forgets about his Mama and siblings and directs all his attention to you. It sounds like he's already getting there with the purring and the tail in the air. The meowing will calm down (I had a *too* young kitten as a child and all she did for a while was meow). If you're lucky, he'll continue to communicate with you and keep up that purring! :-)

Make sure you get him his shots & have him neutered as early as possible, and you'll have a good furry friend for many years to come. :-)

It will stop pretty soon. Your right when you say that it misses his family. You could try putting a stuffed animal in his bedding area with a clock that ticks. It gives them the feeling of thier moms heart beat. I had a kitten that was a big baby too. A mommy cat had her kitten somehow inside my roof and then she dropped them down between the wall so I ended up cutting open the wall to get them out. There were four but since they were still so small 3 died and Baby as I called him was the only survivor and I had to bottle feed him. He cried all the time unless I was holding him which made life pretty difficult so I would stick him in my shirt with my shirt tucked into the bottom of my bra and there he would stay and sleep as I did the things I had to do around the house. This only lasted for about 2 weeks and then he moved into a drawer next to the computer so he could see me and be close by at the same time. Your kitten doesnt necessarily care about the playing so much he or she just wants to be near you since you are mommy now. It will only be a week or two and then it will be all over the place by its self. If the meowing is driving you crazy then you can put a back pack on backwards and stick him in there for awhile so your hands are free. You figure it was used to being in a box with its mom and other kittens since day one and now its all alone. Kittens usually keep thier tails up all the time and when it feels more at home and starts running around chasing stuff they really stick it up straight and look so funny.

Cats talk with their tails. When the tail is up in the air they are feeling friendly and saying hello. With the tail down they are scared or upset. There is a book called "How cats talk to you". Check it out it might be helpful. Also kittens love to warm if you have a bed for him fill a water bottle with warm water and wrap it in a blanket he will feel as if he has his mommy with him.

Hi yes this is normal for a kitten to do...he's looking at you as he would his mom & all the verbal is his need for your contact with him & remember it's a big scary world when you fisrt leave home & for such a little guy it's a bit trauma...He just wants your reassurance & he really needs you right now...Regards Jake
