I personally see nothing wrong with that! They eat a lot when the sun goes down, what's the big deal?? They have been fasting all day long, why not eat a lot when the sun goes down (Iftar) comes??
In addition to that, Muslims don't just "stop" eating during the day in Ramadan, they also stop many other things, so it's not only about eating anyway!

Verse five in Surah al Ma`idah says that we can eat the meat of both Jews and Christians. It is halal, just not zabihah. Too many people make a huge issue out of it but due only to their culture, which they think is Islam. But the Quran is very clear and Islam doesn't make things difficult.

They are required to fast during the day. At night, they are permitted to eat. The meal is often larger than a normal dinner because they have to meet all of their nutritional needs after dark. You'd be hungry too if you had to wait until dark to eat for a month.

Well, it really depends on a person. There are Muslims who would eat as much as they want for Iftar, even when they're already full, and there're Muslims who just won't eat a lot as their stomachs are shrunk. When a stomach shrinks coz one is fasting it cant be stuffed so easily for some people.

muslims are taught not to eat a lot during ramadan, but i guess it becomes a force of habbit as we get really hungry throughout thye day and when the food is on the table it is just sooooooooooo tempting, hence we eat more

Bad practice, I must admit. Yes, many of us do this when we are supposed to do the opposite. It is becoming rare everyday to meet true believers who do not do things the way the society, traditions or personal liking tell you to do them.
There are hypocrites and not very true practitioners of religions all over the world as there are good ones.
May Allah guide us to be true believers as He Wants us to be
Peace
