Anyone experience the same with their dog, she is a 3 year old Gorden setter

Hi yeah checkout her teeth as she could have something lodged between then even if it is just a piece of hair this can start them off doing what you say she's doing...Regards Jake

Yes, I agree it could be a sign of a problem in her mouth - in addition to the other suggestions may I add the possibility of an injury to her tongue - my dog did this by running with a stick in her mouth and catching it in the ground so that it made a hole in the underside of her tongue. We couldn't see anything wrong, but the vet soon spotted it.

I have 2 old English sheepdogs, they have very long coats. I' ve noticed both of them doing the licking thing in mid air, they do it sometimes after they have been licking or chewing at their coats and its usually because a hair is in the mouth or in the throat.

she could have something stuck in her teeth? mine was doing that so iy got some twezzers and pulled it out :) if not have her checked by the vet. there might be nothing wrong but have her checked.

my dog did that when she tried to eat a bumble bee and it stung her . If that's the case .....maybe it is .... the vet told me to just give her some benadryl

Could be a gum or a tooth problem. Have her checked by your vet.
