It is dangerous to use most solvents indoors. This is because the fumes can build up to poisonous levels.

In a chemistry lab, we use solvents like methanol in a fume hood, which keeps us from inhaling the vapors. If you are doing this at home, you should work outside, or at least in a large room with a lot of ventilation (like a garage with the garage door open).

As what? A motor Fuel? Yes. As a solvent? Only if swallowed or close inhalation of fumes. As Shampoo? Yes. As an acclerant. Yes. Tell us what you are using it for?

Additional Info: Diesel makes an excellent solvent for many things. Use in a well ventilated area, use rubber gloves, don't drink it and it is pretty safe. My father (a fabulous mechanic) used diesel regularly as a solvent.

on a submarine we use diesel in a sealed enviroments as a solvent while cleaning lube oil system parts. It's fairly safe, but it will irritate the skin from time to time. Also, I wouldn't recomend smoking while you clean parts. just keep in mind the flash point of diesel is about 160F with a 50% boil temp of 214F and ignition as low as 267F depending on pressure conditions. I would recomend keeping your tank/vat covered, however ensure a vent path exists.
