It's a fictional book, he doesn't claim it to be truth. It's only uptight Christians that complain about it.

Nope. The only people that believe that are people who haven't researched church history.
It's good fiction, though. The Da Vinci Code is a great book. It's just not completely factual, although some of the groups mentioned are real.

I'm an Atheist. I put as much stock in the Da Vinci Code as I do in the Bible. But Dan Brown is an entertaining writer and I've read all of his books.

The Da Vinci Code is a crappily written novel, but it is a novel. That means fiction . . . get it?

FICTION: NOUN: 1a. An imaginative creation or a pretense that does not represent actuality but has been invented. b. The act of inventing such a creation or pretense. fictional, fictionality (-sh-nl-t) , fictionally

BTW, Dan Brown did not invent the ideas in his book. They're much older and have had numerous books written about them. Holy Blood, Holy Grail is the first to come to mind.

I think the idea of Jesus having a wife and baby is a sad and beautiful idea, and would not put any conspiracy or violence past the Christian powers-that-be. And I don't have to justify that to you or anyone.

I no more believe it than I believe that Jesus walked on water or raised the dead. Both are fiction. What made the DaVinci code popular is because it is plausible and much easier to accept than miracles. It's not a big deal to imagine someone fathering children and sirring a bloodline.

Dan Brown never claimed he was spreading anything. He wrote a book--historical fiction. Why is that so problematic?

I bought the book in the fiction isle, does that say anything. However, I have a question why did Jesus have a beard when according to Jewish customs of that time only married men had beards

Fiction or not, why dont you go and do the study he did and find out for yourself. Its no more different that reading the bible and other ancient texts and getting your answers from them etc..
Dont just go by his view, check it for yourself.
