I'm 50+ and do experience problems sleeping from time to time. It leaves me so tired and low in energy. As we get older we sleep less, especially for extended periods.
If you're female, it could be a part of menopause.
Even males at this age have hormonal changes that can affect sleep habits.
Try Chamomile tea, Valerian Root, there are a host of natural and herbal supplements that work.

Im not 50 but have the same problem, I was thrown into the change from surgeries and I was waking up every 2 hours at night. Driving me insane. Now I drink sleepy tea or chamoline tea and eat carrots before bed. It has helped I can go 3 to 4 hours now. Doctor says he can give me something to help me sleep but I am not into pills, I half to take to many now the way it is. Talk to the doctor he will give you lots of suggestions. You will just have to find the one to suit you.

I am 74 (shortly) and I watch tv and seems to give me my usual 4-5 hours of sleep... I am satisfied with that as I don't have any heavy activity.. Besides, once in a while I take a nap in the afternoon.I never worry about sleeping.
One thought...... stop thinking when you lie down.

I have had sleeping problems for years. I'm retired, so I sleep anytime I can. I don't want to take sleeping pills. I watch TV in bed to take my mind off of it, and eventually fall asleep.
I've read alot about it, but all the things they say to do doesn't work for me. You could check with your doctor if you want to.
