I have been missing an exceptional amount of work due to being diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and I found out that my job is cutting everyone's benefits the end of November. Due to my health problems (I also have insulin dependant diabetes) I need health insurance and cannot live without it. I have tried to get on Medicaid in the past and was told that I needed to be on disability in order to get it. This was before I had the psos. I have been in extreme pain due to my psos and unable to go to work for 3 weeks now and I have tried various pain medicines and even had surgery but I'm still experiencing problems. Does anyone know what steps I should take to get on disability? I cannot go without an income, I have bills to pay and due to my medical conditions it is imperitive that I have Health insurance! Also I am 26 and live in Ohio.

Ok, first of all, let me just say that I too have PCOS (not PSOS). It is a hormonal imbalance which causes benign and painless cysts on the ovaries, excessive hair growth, being overweight, heart disease, and diabetes.

I am able and do work full time without pain. I, too, have had fertility treatments (surgery).

Any 26 year old female who is in your shape (what you described), had better go find a new ob/gyn and a new endocrinologist. Obviously, your current ones are not doing you any good!

How about do something healthy?! LOSE some weight! I know it's hard...I've been there. Just start eating right and go for a daily walk. I've lost 30 pounds in 2 months by doing that.

Sorry, but you won't get sympathy from me. There is NO reason why you should not be working. Disability is MEANT to be only for those who truly need it (cannot work due to health issue). You are able to work.

*(You could always go to free health clinics!)*

In the first place we don't know how bad this ladies condition is. We can't point fingers. Your doctor should be able to provide you with all the necessary documentation needed for any medical problems required for Social Security benefits.
In the first place, getting S.S.I. doesn't mean someone is actually getting the Bennies, they are in the program only, this is the first and hardest step to take. They may or may not work, it's up to them and a doctor. Most work.
You have the evaluation for medical treatment and drugs, another big step. With the cost of drugs today, it means a lot.

The local S.S.I. office will evaluate you and place you on a program, it's not easy, medical records, tests, re-evaluations are necessary. It can take from a few months in a country area to many months in a city. You have to be patient.

If you were diagnosed disabled, then DSHS should help you . I would go back and tell them what you were diagnosed with and whats happening.
