The short answer is you cannot erase the error log info unless you go into the registry and do some major modifications. The error log you are viewing via Help and Support is just one of 3 files automatically created by Windows XP. In addition to System info, you also have Application info and Security info. You can view all error logs by clicking start > run > type in "eventvwr.msc" > OK (no quotes) or start > control panel > administrative tools > event viewer.

XP is a huge program with literally tens of millions of lines of code. The developers realized problems could occur with normal usage so they included the Event Viewer Log to help the user and tech support find problems such as a service that doesn't start, a device installation problem, an application error, etc. When you select a log from the tree in the left pane, the right pane will display the available events (usually going back several months.) The info will include the event's date, time and source as well as it's type (information, warning or error). You can see specific info about an event by double-clicking it or by selecting it and then click enter.

XP has already set aside a block of memory to store event log info. Even if you could easily erase the info, you would not be freeing up this memory for something else. Hope this helps.
