I'm trying to diet, but I just can't give up my favorite foods that are considered not very healthy (ie. pizza, alfredo pasta, ribs). I was thinking of just cutting down the amount I eat in half, so I am always half full, but get hungry more quickly. So I plan to eat more often (every 2 hours) when I get hungry but still only until I'm about half full. When it comes to exercise I do cardio 4 times a week for 30 minutes each. If I'm just looking to lose 1-2 pound a week for the first several weeks, can this kind of diet work?

yes, reducing the amount you eat, how frequently an the time is a major factor in how much weight you lose, many people (based on their metabolism) can get away with eating a smaller amount of the same foods earlier in the day and not eating after 4pm

hope this helps :)

Two letter: N-O, NO no, NO! People have many misconceptions about when you eat and the wieght you gain, but the bottom line is that calories in-calories out=how much calories are left(IE what's in your gut stored as fat, or stored elsewhere as muscle gains). It doesn't matter when or how you eat. You can eat upside down, its still not going to matter. You may hear things like "its better to eat 6 smaller meals a day than 3 big ones". This is true because it spreads your energy out through the day so you're getting the right amount when you need it, but if your six smaller meals add up to your 3 big ones, you're not going to lose wieght. You'll also hear that its bad to eat before bedtime. This is also true, but its not because you won't be burning the calories. Its true because generally that is extra food that wouldn't be part of your regular daily diet. And if it is, then you've already burned the calories and you really should have eaten it earlier. But the bottom line is, calories in minus calories out. But I'm a firm believer that when you're losing weight exercise is the more important component, and when you're trying to gain, diet is more important, so try working out more, and making small changes in your diet, and see how it goes.

What you should do is eat a set amount of small meals a day. Maybe like 6 instead of three. Eat smaller amounts so that it just fills you up. Not half of what you eat each time, but maybe like a third or something. As well as doing cardio, start walking alot. Just go on an hour walk in the afternoon. It doesn't have to be a run, but just try to keep a bit of a faster pace than usual. Also, drink lots of water.

Actually you are suppose to eat little healthy meals throughout the day. That sometimes can be hard though if you are a student or what not. Always always always eat breakfast. Grab a banana or eggs. These will keep you full until at least lunch. For lunch I like to eat a healthy wheat sandwich with turkey and mustard and vegetables. Later on in the day eat snacks but make them stuff like yogurt, fruit, and vegetables. If you snack on candy bars and chips those do no good. Then for supper make sure you eat at least before 8. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. This not only is healthy but it fills you up which keeps you from snacking on bad stuff or eating when you are not hungry. But to get abs you really need to add exercise in as well. Good luck!

You know what the absolute perfect type of diet would be for you (if you want to lose 1-2 lbs per week)? Weight Watchers Flex program!!

They have two types of diet plans. One is the Flex, one is the core program. Following either one, you will lose about 1 - 2lbs per week (although of course not everyone loses EXACTLY the same).. I am on it, though folowing the flex plan, and losing exactly that..

Anyway, the reason why the flex plan may perfect for you is that you can eat WHATEVER you like, as often as you like -- it is just about portion control. Every day you have a certain amount of 'points' that you can use. Different foods have different point values. It is easy to learn, and easy to follow, as you can continue to eat the foods that you love!!

The only difference that I've found that I have to make (while on Weight Watchers), is to try and drink more water, and eat more fruit and veggies.

I hope you'll go to a Weight Watchers meeting in your area just to learn about it, then you never have to go to a meeting again. It is helpful, however, to at least go to the weekly weigh-ins. It can be quite inspiring seeing your progress (they write it on a lil' card for you to track).

The fact that you already exercise is GREAT!! That means you will get even more 'bonus' points for that, and you are 'allowed' to eat even more in the week.

Check weightwatchers.com for more details (no, I don't work for them, it's just that they are helping me lose weight after having 2 kids in less than 2 years.. and I am SO grateful for their program which is EASY to follow, and to CONTINUE for life).

Wishing you success!!

It's all about Exercise and Calorie intake. You can eat Pizza Pasta and Ribs all you want, if you offset that by exercise. But i'm sitting here thinking that your too busy licking sauce from your fingers to be exercising much .... so at the very least .... be active, and reduce the meal sizes, yes, smaller meals more often gives your metabolism a boost, but please exercise more, it's the only way.

Yea you can. Calories are the key to loosing or gaining weight. If you burn more calories than you are eating then eventually you will loose weight. Your body will try to adapt to your lower calorie intake though, by slowing your metabolism down, but since your physically active it shouldnt be a problem

You have to reduce eating. Suddenly it is not possible. So you have your favourite food one time and the next time you can eat any of the vegetable. It stop some hunger and doesnt have calories as your usual food also.
