depends on the age of the child and if they have use of their arms/hands.
suggestions: stuffed animals, color books and crayons, paper and colored pencils, books, an inexpensive walkman and a couple of cds, a word puzzle book (for older children).

Definitely something that can entertain the child, since it can get pretty boring at a hospital. Forget balloons and stuffed animals, everyone else will give those!. It also depends how much money you want to spend. and the child's age. If you don't want to spend too much, a good book is perfect. If you want to spend a little more cash, you could try a portable video game system like PSP/Gameboy or a music (MP3) player.

something interactive to make the child happy and distract them for a while from the environment they are in, such as a small handheld game that will keep their interest. gameboys are great but a bit pricey..a cheap alternative can be found at any drugstore. also maybe a stuffed animal to give the child comfort and something to love while in a scary place..?
good luck!

Depends on the age. I was hpspitalised as a child for 3 months, and I loved get books, comic books, lego sets (building stuff takes time, plus its not repetitive).

Get a gift bag and put all kinds of fun things that would keep them occupied. Such as puzzles, books, games, a stuffed animal stuff like that depending on their age. I think that would be a great gift!

Last year the womens group from church sent stuffed animals to Brenners Childrens Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC --- it was very special to the kids in the hospital.

My son received a gift basket w/ teddy bear, book, rattle, pacifier
he was 10mo. but perhaps you can come up with stuff that appropriate for the child's age.
may have been purchased at the hospital.

I think a teddy bear is great, I just took one to a friend and my aunt was there too so I took her one, she is elderly and she thanked me and thanked me told me she had never had a stuffed toy and when I went back to see her she told me how much comfort she had gotten from holding it especially at night!!!!!!!
