No, I don't think it's irrational. What I do think is irrational is assuming this has to be the case because a book said so.

That seemed like an easy question on the face of it, but I had to wrestle with it for a minute. I'm not even sure it's a coherent idea. Don't we have to define what is meant by Supreme Designer before we can talk about evidence and reasons for or against? I don't think it even rises to the level of rational or irrational. There's nothing there. Also, it's a totally unnecessary attempt at an explanation. We don't need a designer to explain design in the universe. Evolution explains how we get design, or at least the appearance of design. I don't think I've ever been able to really pin down just how bad of an idea I think God(Supreme Designer) is. We don't know what it is. It doesn't explain anything. And we don't need it.

I think the word you're looking for is "illogical", not "irrational". Although "irrational" could work here as it can mean "absurd". So either you're asking atheists out here on YA if we think the idea of a belief in a Supreme Designer is "absurd", or you mean "illogical" and thusly "unreasonable".

Given that your subsequent comment was that you didn't mean "irrational", I'm going to assume you meant "illogical" and go from there.

To answer what I assume you meant, yeah, I think it's illogical to believe in a Supreme Designer. Not to bring up cliches, but, if God created the world, then who created God? Did God create himself? Did God just poof out of nowhere? Was God created by another being? And if that being created God, who created the being that created God?

See where I'm going with this? That arguement could literally go on forever. In my mind, the only logical answer that satisfies both where people came from and where God came from is the fact that people evolved. And since people evolved and obviously didn't understand this huge universe they were in, they created God to explain it all, end of story.

Yes. My gods aren't personifications of deity. They're simply the means by which my limited mind can understand the existance and rules of the universe. I don't deny that, unlike many religious.

To believe in personifications of deity IS irrational. As is believing the bible, yet only living by a tiny portion of it while calling everything in it that you don't agree with "parables".

Yes, because there is no evidence to support the existence of a supreme being. If there's a god he could make a believer out of me if would just present himself.

If belief is irrational so is reason itself. Haven't you heard.
All is materialistic. If we were truly rational no beast would dare come near us. Come,Eat,Kill,****,***,sleep, eat, kill, etc.
Pure material existence. No wasteful rationalizations.

If we choose anything else is because we are not satisfied by causing natures little pains and we enjoy our socialized layers of
irrational pleasures.

Yes, I do. There is no logic to it, no reason, no evidence - that is the definition of irrational - not a choice a rational person would make.
