we have a standard poodle already and she is great. shes 1 and a half years old but we are contemplating getting another dog soon. Maybe a schnauzer though this poodle has been great so maybe another poodle? Unless there are other suggestions--but must have low shedding.

Schnauzers much prefer to be the only dog, and are much more temperamental..they don't usually play well with others..We have 2 schnauzers in the dog day care.

It's a personal choice. I'm sure all the Schnauzer people will recommend a Schnauzer. Personally, I vote for the Standard Poodle! But in fairness, you can't say one is "better" than the other.
Our friends have always had Schnauzers and currently have two. Their dogs are great little companions but they are also very head strong and extremely "yappy".
We used to live in a campground (in our motorhome) and many of our neighbors had Schnauzers (very popular breed). Our experience (this is only our experience) was that they were all annoying as they constantly barked at everything and everyone.
If you have had such good luck with your standard poodle, I'd stick with what I know and get another one.
Everyone has their own personal favorites and I guess that's why there are so many different breeds. Good luck with whatever you decide and enjoy your new companion!

A schnauzer is always the best choice,however the schnauzer is a very jealous dog,I have had 3 of them in my lifetime so far and the schnauzer will grow up and dominate your standard poodle,cause they will fight for the right to be # one,so since you already have a poodle,then i would suggest another poodle......If I had my choice in the first place I would always choose the schnauzer

Standard poodles are usually great dogs, if your looking for a similar temperment stay with that. Schnauzers are much different in personality, more high maintenance and tempermental. No offense to schnauzer owners, but I'd never have one in my home, especially around kids. Standard poodles are much more lab like in my experience.

Miniature Schnauzer or a Standard Schnauzer. Poodles are cute, my aunt breeds them but they tend to cost more and require way more grooming. They're both great but as a miniature schnauzer owner, a Schnauzer for sure.

Hi depends on ones taste I guess but the schnauzers can have a great personality like the poodle...However when thinking about bringing another dog into your home there are certain things more important to think about...Are you going to have the same sex?If not are you going to have them fixed in case they ever get together?How would you home them if they did?These are the most important things you really need to ask yourself apart from the cost of an extra dog...Good luck with yur new puppy if you do get one...Regards Jake http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PetsSecondChance

i have a schnauzer now. i have had a poodle in the past. i won't own another dog unless it is a schnauzer. they are very loving, highly intelligent, and have a great personality. they only thing about a schnauzer is they are very affectionate and attention seeking.

I've never had either, but I've heard schnauzers can be tempermental. A friend of mine had a giant poodle who was lovely-- great personality, great with kids, and hypoallergenic. I'd go with the poodle.

A schnauzer even though it has a temper. They r active and usually playful. But more independent. And a schnauzer is small so it barely makes big messes! If u know what I mean!!! lol
