Confused! There are many Christian Churches in the world. Why do we have different bibles? Certain gospels/books have been removed or not placed in the bible. Who are we to change the bible? One bible should represent all christian. true?

The books of the bible were chosen because they were the ones already widely used and accepted as correct by the christian world. They were not chosen by a group of biased people who kept what they wanted and discarded the rest. Found a link to explain it better. You could also get a copy of ' why trust the bible' by amy orr-ewing, a fairly recent book, which tells us a lot more about why the bible is a trusted historical document and mentions the canon too.

The Catholics have pretty much the same Bible as the Protestants have. The main difference is that the Catholics have the Apocrypha in theirs and maybe a few other books.

I disagree with you that all Christians should have the same Bible. Mormons and Catholics and Jehovah's Witnesses consider themselves Christians and yet they actually follow 'another gospel'.

I am a 'Protestant' and was reading a Catholic book (A Concise History of the Catholic Church -?title?) about the history of the Catholic Church not too long ago. In the section on the Reformation, the author praised the actions of the Inquisition. The Catholic Church took the second Commandment (idol worship) away and split the tenth in two. They also pray to dead people which is a sin. They also claim Mary is a Co-Redemptrix.

I also would like to add:

I noticed others answered saying things similar to what was said in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. Actually, the New Testament was completed before the end of the first century. It was not put together at the Council of Nicea in 324 A.D.

There are many things that people don't know about true Christian history because the corrupt Catholic Church distorts everything to conform to its pagan ways. This church is the whore riding the Beast in Revelation.

Also, you should avoid recent translations such as the Message or TNIV or The Living Bible and the like. They are full of New Age teachings. Stick with the KJV or NASB only. Not that KJV is perfect, but the newer translations exclude many things that are important. This is one possible reason so many people follow false teachers claiming the health and wealth prosperity gospel.

Point #1 Most, if not all of these documents date no earlier than the second century which is after all the eye witnesses who would be able to authoritatively discredit these stories died. Furthermore, because of this fact, these documents were not written by eye witnesses like the true Gospels (save Luke) but rather by gnostics... which is why these are referred to as the "gnostic gospels" Point #2 In the writing of some of the early church fathers they make mention of some of these writings as being aware of them and having even read them "lest they be accused of being ignorant of them". Here's an interesting segment of the Muratorian Fragment of around 170 A.D.: "There is current also [an epistle] to the Laodiceans, [and] another to the Alexandrians, [both] forged in Paul's name to [further] the heresy of Marcion, and several others which cannot be received into the catholic Church — for it is not fitting that gall be mixed with honey." The early church fathers and Christians from that time were well aware of these forgeries and what they were, and so would not have allowed them to be canonized for that very reason. Furthermore, the entire Bible had already been written, and mostly assembled, before most of these forgeries were written.

Well, i beleive theres about 40 books which are excluded from the bible and live in the vatican...

Frankly put... its like a movie... if you did a movie showing ALL the material you'd filmed you end up with a hugely long film with some largely boring and repetitve parts.

The bible is in effect the Directers Cut of all the books to make the version most convient to the church.

Mary Magdolines (check sp.) gospel would be interesting to read... find any nasty contradictions that The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail inplied were there

I'm not so sure, but I think the Catholic church had something to do with deciding which books would be contained in the Bible. And even though a lot of people don't believe in Catholicism (I don't) I do believe that God would not leave us with an inaccurate record. So, regardless of what whoever did with the Bible, we take it on faith that God was in control the whole time and has left us with an accurate record. But now we are in the last days and many have mistranslated what is already in the Bible. That's where we have to be careful and listen to the voice of our Master. Peace.

Because at the end of the day the bible is just a history book and nothing more and with all history stories only the winning side gets to tell the tale, so any stories that do not fit the format are excluded. a good one is Mary Magdalene being married to Jesus and why not. because it does not fit the picture of what we are taught that Jesus was here to tell about god and that was all

Not to be down on the Catholic church, but the Popes are the ones that decided what will be included and what will be discarded.
They also changed many areas of the Bible that they felt offensive or threatening to the Catholic faith.

Yeah, well, if we all spoke the same language then there would be just "1". Since we don't, there's alot of Bibles in alot of languages. Nothing was altered though, the message and truth is the same. God isn't "weak" that he can't keep his own word from being messed with. The Apocrypha is not in most Bibles because many felt it isn't divinely inspired.

Well, we created Saddam with 80 plus billions in the 1980's to wipe out a million plus Iranians and he only wanted a little spice with less than 10,000 Kurds.

God Bless America, the most Christian democracy on earth.

Agree with Russ. You'll eventually find out that the bible was "doctored" according to papal beliefs at the time. But it's religion and I shouldn't even be talking about it. now look what you made me do.
