I know several women, I secretly call them the Karate cult, that have all started doing Karate within the last year or two. They spar with 12 year old boys, get yelled at by the sensei, then have to pay top dollar to get a new color belt every 3 months. They're really not even learning any practical self defense strategies. Do they just like being reprimanded and treated like a child? Does it have to do with searching for a father figure? What the hell?

A new colour belt every 3 months?

Woah, McDojo.

Also, my old Karate McDojo had boys and girls up untill the age of 18. Then a huge gap. Then 40+ year old men. What do you suppose they were looking for? A mother figure? Get real.

that could be signs that this school is a "belt factory" or a "Mcdojo" as Michael S put it.

but Martial Arts as a business relies on children as their main source of clients, but that doesn't mean that adults can't learn either.

I've been a student of Martial Arts for 15yrs so I've seen many people from all walks of life and ages learning all disciplines

I'm 30yrs old and loved it ever since I've started, because it's a lot of fun, it helps me stay in shape, and I've met some really cool people in my time of studying it, especially people who're the same age or a little younger than myself, but we also have adults that're in their 40's and 50's who love doing it as well.

the women prob'ly do it because they have children who're in the class as well, or they just might wanna learn how to defend themselves in the case they'll need it for the future.
