Hi. I am currently writing my dissertation on the subject of why people who suffer from mental illness (in particular Bi-Polar Disorder) have an abnormally high capacity for creativity and creative thought. In essence, i'm attempting to discover why this is so. However, I am still at a loss in regards to a title for the dissertation. I'm wanting a title that may include a play on words, something a little.....well creative! Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

Bipolar disorder by it's very nature causes manias so extreme that many people throughout history have given us beautiful art, books, poetry, music, acting etc. but the eventual price of the grandiose feelings that lead to all that creativity was the havoc created in their personal lives by the mania itself and the swan dive into depression afterwards. I would call my dissertation: Mania: Climbing the Cliff to Conquer the World. Falling from the Mountain to the Depths of Despair.

Play on words?? Humm..."Tragic Comic", "On Top of the World While Sitting in Hell", "Flying High in the Bottom of the Ocean","Riding the Roller coaster of Life", "Painting a Masterpiece of Distortion" and my favorite term to describe myself at the time, "Oxymoron". Why that word? High lows, low highs, manic depression, depressive maniac. All of which are oxymoron's( for those who do not know the meaning of the word)
I myself am a "Tragic Comic" even though I have been re evaluated and am no longer considered bipolar. Actually, the doctors said I have recovered fully, but that is another story.

The only part of your question that prompts a response from me is this term Bi Polar ,,,, I am convinced that it's just a feeble term these shrinks have come up with for a kind of behavior they know nothing about or can't figure out ,,,, I think psychiatrists totally over rate themselves ,,,, their hourly rates indicate that,,,, and too many people including the judicial system puts too much faith in them ,,,, when in fact they (the shrinks) aren't intelligent enough to understand that these people they label Bi Polar are just unruly idiots to one degree or another with a serious lack of discipline and proper teaching during their child hood that manifests its self later in life and as a consequence others are expected to make allowances accordingly ,,,,, Could it be that anyone prone to violence or odd behavior or anything that doesn't conform to what society believes normal is Bi Polar? Is everyone in our prisons today Bi Polar?,,,, Just where does this supposed condition start or end ?,,,, As far as I'm concerned the term Bi Polar is just an easy out for both the person so diagnosed and the shrink and enables some one to act like an idiot and get away with it by claiming they suffer from this idiotic term these shrinks have come up with ,,,, So what about this supposed Bi Polar person ,,,,, Well he's excused regardless of what he does or who he hurts or damages he causes because he hides behind this condition invented by our supposedly intelligent psychiatrists ,,,, They are saying that this poor person can't be held responsible for his/her actions because he/she is Bi Polar ,,,,, It's a poor attempt and a lame excuse on their part to come up with an explanation for a person that just hasn't had any or enough discipline in their early life and is unable to function acceptably in society now because of it ,,,,, And I guess the poor victims of this poor person is evidently supposed to understand this too ,,,,, If all these people who are what they refer to as Bi Polar really are Bi Polar ,,,,, then why are they allowed to run the streets unleashed and with out a keeper ,,,, Can anyone that displays an odd behavior be diagnoses as being Bi Polar ? ,,,,Then too if I were paid something from like $140 an hour up to $210 dollars or maybe even more (I'm not sure really),,,,Then I'd sit around racking my brain for something that sounds good too ,,,, It's hard for me to believe that people actually pay that kind of money to some one else that does absolutely nothing to earn it ,,,, As for a title for this dissertation ,,,, It would probably be a little easier for someone to help you in this area if they had a chance to read what's in it ,,,, I don't know ,,,, how about "Original Concepts from Impaired Minds ? ,,,,,,,

for some reason every generation has to change something from the previous generation - one is "manic-depressive" to "bi-polar" - manic-depressive is a much more accurate title of the disorder. there are endorphins in the brain that are released by everything from drugs, looking at a peice of sculpture, painting, alcohol, sky-diving, love, a beautiful womans face, a rose, hate, etc. in a manic depressive person the endorphins are released in larger quantities at a time, this gives a boosted feeling of euphoria that is experiences by an average person only after the average person gets "wasted" - in a manic-depressive they can be released by simple things (i am sure you have seen the list of all the notables in history that had match symtoms of manic-depression), a manic-depressive painter for instance isnt painting a gorgeous painting for the benefit of the public at large, he is painting what he is painting because it gives him a feeling that "moderate" people only feel after getting drunk or high. their works become popular because there is a percentage of the population that feels the same after just looking at his "work of art". that is the manic side - because of the boosted release of chemicals in the brain and because of the slower build up of the chemicals there is a time until there is enough endorphins to release again - that is the time that because of the lack of release the person feels depressed or lathargic (depressive - why they changed the title of manic-depressive is more political correctnes crap)

'huh' seems very technical, but my step son is bi polar. its a simple chemical imbalance in the brain. seratonin and dopemine can't maintain constant balance. i dont agree that manic depressive is an accurate term, manic episodes occur when one of these chemicals either surges or diminishes. my son isnt always hysterical or out of control, but when its bad-boy is it bad. to try to answer your question, maybe "chemical creations" might work. good luck
