i believe that when you die, your soul goes to live with God in Heaven forever. Because we are imperfect, God welcomes us into His presence through his perfect son Jesus. (Jesus ultimately died to give us the way to God.)
I really believe this is true. However, I can't argue it on any reason other than faith, though. It is intangible and everyone has to come to their own conclusion personally.

I've only heard of a handful of people who have really come back from the dead (I'm not referring to 'near-death' experiences here); and strangely, they did not recount the experience. There must not have been much to tell.
The only other way to know the answer to that is by means of someone who knows without being dead. God is the only one who fits that category that I know of. And he does tell us -- in the Bible.

If you can't test it, you can't "know" it.
The fact that we don't know why something is the way it is, doesn't imply a cause. Anything untestable can neither be proved, or relied upon, and therefore remains in the realm of the unknown.
But rest assured, plenty of people here are going to tell you EXACTLY what happens when you die. Too bad they can't give you the winning Lotto numbers as well.

No one has the answer to this, anyone claiming to know would be pulling your leg or legs.
There is no post office or internet after death so you cant send any messages.
Once you die, that is final. End of your story.

here is what will happend after death in Islam:
let's assume that you are a true believer who worship God alone and did good deeds toward your lord, once you die, angels come down in good looking way setting themselves far away from your vision, the angels carry your coffen. then the Angel of death who is responsible of taking the soul of the people come down, then he will pull your soul gently and it will be says to you:
Quran ch89
[27] "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
[28] "Come back to your Lord well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)!
[29] "Enter you then among My (honored) slaves,
[30] "And enter you My Paradise!"
you stay in the life of death called "Al-burzokh" till that day of judgment starts. your faith will be tested in your grave by the two angels called "Nakir & Nakier" . Muhammad describe their voice like a thunder, they will ask you. if you pass the test. a call will says" this slave is honest. your grave will open wide, then it will become like a piece of paraidse. you remain there till you return to your lord in the day of judgment.
...there are more, but i have to stop here. regarding the disbeliever and those who did bad deeds, it's really sad and bad news waiting for them after death. the opposite of everything i just said.

Some people claim they have, but since the rest of us haven't, we cannot know if they are telling the truth. I'd rather say I don't believe in their testimony. But I am in no hurry to learn the truth...

You go in the ground. From dust you came, and to dust you shall return. That is until the Lord returns. Its in the Bible.

The BIBLE, The repository of GOD'S WORDS, specifies what happens to man's whole being when he dies. When a MAN DIES, THE SOUL DIES AS WELL; it is not immortal. His SPIRIT RETURNS TO GOD WHO GAVE IT, and HIS PHYSICAL BODY OR FLESH RETURNS TO DUST, FROM WHICH IT CAME.
