I do not know the baby well or have I seen him (boy). I only know the parents and they are my husband's friends. He told me to pick something out. I know what my son got for his 1st birthday but that was 5 yrs ago and I don't have a clue. And, most of the people at the birthday party knew me and been around my son.

That's the problem they shut down the Toys R Us in my city and I don't have enough time to drive to another toy store, I might go to Walmart or Target. This event just recently came up. Or anyone think a name brand gift card is good?
Because the babyshower for the boy we gave the mom money in a card with a bib attached, but I wasn't at the babyshower.

A good gift for a baby is anything colorful, or plays music. Kids love that stuff. If you're totally stumped, a practical gift would be a gift card to a store you know the parents would like, such as Gymboree or Disney Store or The Children's Place. I loved it when I got a gift card for Barnes and Noble. I ended up getting my daughter a set of cardboard books that ended up being her favorite books and I've even saved them throughout the years. She is now 8 and remembers every single word to them!

good question. my son will be 1 on sunday. i am not getting him anything (mostly b/c i am BROKE!!). He is so young that he wont remember that he didn't get anything from me. but in your situation, i would suggest something that has flashing lights, makes noises and doesn't do the same thing over and over and over. books are bad (my son eats them). stuffed animals are bad (also eaten). something with lots of buttons that do different things. clothes are always good too. make sure that if you do give clothes that you give the receipt too. and you can never go wrong with a pack of diapers. make sure you give the right size though. one year olds usually wear size 3 or 4's. if you are really stumped then give a gift card.

Best bet is going to www.toysrus.com because they have the toys broke down into age groups. If you have a store near by you can then have some idea of what you are going into look for.

I have a 1 year old daughter and I just bought her the Fisher Price Baby Grand Piano. She loves it. Its for kids 9months and up. This would be a perfect gift.

babies like anything with cool wrappings! Pick up something inexpensive- a toy, some fuzzy baby socks, and a board book. I guarantee, though, whatever you buy, the baby will have more fun with the wrapping paper and bow than he will with the present! Make the wrapping REALLY cool. :-)

Tickle Me Elmo Xtreme!
I'm getting one for my nephew at Christmas and he just turned one. I would have got him one for his birthday but all the stores were sold out.

A throw/blanket like superman, spiderman, batman. So he can use it even if he goes to daycare. Pratical, not expensive and fun.
