They start spraying when they are ready to mate, that is after 6-7 months old at least, sometimes after 1 year old. If you are going to neuter him, do it some time around Christmas, before the mating season begins. After neutering, make sure you feed him proper food for neutered males, something that controls urine alcalinity and struvite formation, because neutered males have a tendency to get urine blockage, which is dangerous. if, at any time in his life, you see him straining without peeing or peeing outside his litterbox, in the sink, etc, get him to a vet ASAP.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!

Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Hi there...your kitty most likely has reached sexual maturity since the average age for male cats is 5-7 months. He will need to be neutered in order to stop the spraying. The longer he continues to spray the harder it will be to discourage the bad habit even after he's been neutered/fixed.

If finances are of concern, many shelters will perform the safe and simple surgery inexpensively. Consider ringing a shelter as soon as possible to arrange an appointment for you little guy.

While he's away in surgery for the day be sure to clean the inappropriately soiled areas with Nature's Miracle found worldwide. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_large_img.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775473&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574488339105 It's an enzymatic neutralizer that works by soaking the pet urine stains/odours then to let air dry. This is especially important with cats because if they can smell urine odours they will continue to mark/spray repeatedly over it.

My tom is just about 2 years old and he has never started to spray in my home. I have seen him mark his grown on the out side, but not to often. I think, its a thing that each cat is different about.
Water in a spray bottle is a good way to let him no that you are not liking what he has done.
Good luck.

He should be ready to be neutered.
When cats reach sexual maturity they spray to mark their territory. If your cat is fixed prior to that, he won't do it. If you wait, he could start and some cats will continue to spray even after they have been fixed.

So, see your vet and do it soon. The sooner the better. He's ready and since he won't reach sexual maturity, there won't be more unwanted kittens, he'll be happier and live longer and he will probably be an affectionate cat. Mine are and every male cat I know who was fixed young is just a love.

Good luck!

Hi anytime around 7 month & that is the time to get him fixed as he will be developed enough at that point to be fixed...leaving it longer can leave you with a cat that sprays even if he's been fixed but at the 7 months stage they should sit be sitting to pee but on the verge of standing to pee...Make an appointment with a vet in the next 2 months...Regard Jake

It varies from cat to cat. I had an un-neutered male cat who never sprayed though he had reached sexual maturity (he's since been neutered though) and a neutered male cat who would spray (outside) when he felt threatened enough to mark his territory that way.

Generally if you neuter them before they start they don't start...at least not such that it becomes a habit.
