He is reported to have said that must eat his flesh and drink his blood if we want to have eternal life. This idea was just too gross for "many of his disciples" and "walked no more with him."

Jesus said I am the bread of live and the everlasting spring. he will suply our every need if we put our faith in him I am sure there is no John 60.
54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever." 59He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit[e] and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
yes it explains they found the idea repulsive

Your question is answered when you read John 6:63,66: Jesus said, ' It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words That I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are SOME OF YOU WHO DO NOT BELIEVE.' For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. These followers who left Him were unbelievers and His betrayers. If you hold anything negative about Jesus He will know because He discerns what is in your heart. These people left Him because they rejected Him or intended to cause Him harm.

Sounds as if your witnessing rather than attempting to ask a question, but I am A Seventh Day Adventist Sabbath School Teacher so I will respond anyway, let me reword A famous text in the same book of John 3:16 and combine it with John 14:15, For God "SO" Loved the world that He [The Father] gave Jesus [He the second member of The Godhead gave Himself] that whosoever [thats you] should BE-LIVE in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, and IF you BE-LIVE in Him keep His commandments, because IF you Love Him enough to keep His commandments [not suggestions] then you will EAT the flesh [life] and drink the blood [life] of Jesus and indeed live, He will become A part of you, In John 15 it says this: 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
15:5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned.
15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Search4truth,
I have really looked at that and have been persuaded that he meant to shake them off. They followed Jesus from Tiberias, and they wanted more miracles. And so He purposefully used words, about things that were true ( He did not lie) amd shook them off.

I think you have answered your question beautifully but may I also add that food and drink are essential to sustain human life. Jesus living in us is essential to sustaining Christian life. This is what I think Jesus meant also.
