My doctor told me that there were no conclusive studies on this hair dying and pregnancy thing, but they mostly tell women in the first trimester not to dye their hair. It is more the fumes than the hair dye they worry about, even though a small amount of dye is absorbed through the skin.

I would suggest using the Natural Instincts temporary 24 wash stuff. It really does not wash out in 24 washes, atleast not in my hair, and it does not contain a lot of the really harmful ingrediants like peroxide and such.

At 32 weeks you should be safe. You might also consider going to the salon and having them just put in a few highlights, because that would not be enough fume to make a difference and it would never touch your scalp or skin, then you would not have to worry at all.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), because very little dye is absorbed through the skin, dying your hair is "most likely safe" during pregnancy, despite what doctors in years past may have advised. That's good news for many expectant women — coloring your hair can be a great little confidence boost when everything else going on in your body feels so out of your control.

My doctor told me that as long as the coloring kit did not contain ammonia - we should be fine. I did my hair the night before going in to have a c-section and things went great. I kinda felt the same way that you did, I just wanted to look better since I knew everyone would be in the hospital room taking pictures of me and the baby and family and such. But I would say to call your doctor and ask him before attempting it. You should be able to get an answer over the phone rather than having to go in and ask. Good luck and congrats on the baby.

I touched up my roots one time when I was pregnant. There is no harm to the baby.My roots did not want to lighten like it normally did,I waited a week and tried it again, still wouldn't lighten very much. After I had my daughter I colored my hair again and it lightened up like it was suppose to. Weird. My hair seemed to grow faster when I was pregnant also. Good luck and congrats on the baby.

I work in a salon and I have had 2 children and I colored my hair all the time. I also color pregnant peoples hair all the time. Sometimes if your hormones are acting up it can make a perm not react right but color I have never seen a problem.

Some people say the fumes and chemicals are not good while youre pregnant, but I had my hair dyed while expecting and it was all fine.
