Obviously she is testing limits as 11 year old children will do. She is likely expecting you to react in shock. The trick here is not to overreact. Should it happen again try to ignore it and then at a calm time invite her to sit down with you. Open the subject of inappropriate language. Remind her that while she may be hearing people use this language at school, that it is not the way the family speaks at home. Tell her that the vulgarities rob her of her attractiveness and while she would no more go out in public with mud all over her face, she should not allow herself to spew out vulgar language. Maybe you can tell her that while you can't control what she says or doesn't say while away from you, that you will have to trust that she is developing good judgement in how she presents herself. Tell her that in your home, such language is unacceptable. If she persists, be prepared to take away a privelege or two. Then stick to it.
One book I recommend to parents is the book, "How to Listen so they will Talk and how to Talk so they will Listen" It is a great parentíng book.

It is very common for children that age to test your limits. She's also trying to fit in at school and part of that always seems to be a few vulgar words. I'm not saying you should do nothing at all! I do think that if you make a huge deal out of it that she will rebel further and act out because she'll feel that you don't understand her. I'd sit her down and talk with her about how you know what school was like when you went to it and that you're sure it has changed a bit. But, one thing that NEVER changes is the fact that vulgar words make pretty young girls UGLY! When people say ugly things it in turn makes them ugly. And then I would drop it. She'll be smart enough to absorb the information and she'll do the right thing. I'm certain she is a very lovely girl who will listen to reason. Good luck and God bless!

since this sounds like the first time tell her next time she says something like that again she will get grounded tell her that makes her sound like she is not smart when she uses words like those. Tell her you know she is smart so you do not want her to use words like those again. If she does she is grounded.
