Sushi is actually rice with toppings. Althought it can be raw fish, the majority is actually veggies and cooked items like eggs and cooked seafood.
Sashimi is the raw fish segment of the Japanese menu. Top recommendations are Hamachi, Sake and Toro. It's either you love it or hate it.
BTW, cold smoked salmon is actually raw too. Have you tried that?

Raw fish or Sushi prepared in the Japanese way, tastes great
and delicious. It's fresh and the least of the fishy smell.
Normally it's eaten with sake, a Japanese rice wine which is intoxicating when consumed a lot.
I would strongly recommend you to try it today!

That COULD be sushi... I guess... but raw fish generally refers to sashimi, not sushi. Secondly, I *personally* don't care for anything raw (I have to eat well-done steak or else I send it back for them to cook more). However, if you like Japanese food, then you should definitely try it because I know a lot of friends and family who love sashimi. I suggest tuna the most since it's sort of a staple or a constant in sashimi dishes. Then, I'd suggest salmon. Go for good quality! By the way, don't eat too much tuna... mercury poisoning.

I like sushi, and I like cooked fish too. Only salmon tastes better raw than cooked I think. Trying raw fish is recommended because it tastes good even without using any oil in it, and it's never too dry.

In the wild they do eat some fish and many other strange things that many would think disgusting. So I think an accasional fish that is healthy and clean wouldn't be a problem. Many farmers feed the cows and horses the waste is eaten by the hogs, and then some people think the hogs are healthy to eat. That just shows how little many people realy know about the food they eat.

sushi is less "fishy" tasting than other fish because it is fresher. the fishy taste is actually bacteria that grows on fish -- nice huh? go with a friend and try a boat. Its usually pretty generic nigiri (fish on rice) like salmon and yellow tail and some rolls thrown in. Its made for people who don't know what to order i think. Its still good when I don't feel like deciding.

you can answer that question of yours better than anyone else, yes by eating the sushi -- no big deal.interesting experience for the self and for the stomach. once in hawaii I was refused to a restaurant serving sushi --for fear i might not like it. au contraire, today -- it is one of my favorite for flavor and for change. voila. my part of the story based on experience. i recommentd you have lunch or supper where the sushi bar exists so you can choose both with your eyes and pocket too. best take a Japan-ese friend along. it is more fun.
