Guys are stupid....The best way to do it is to get one of your friends to help you by using a small curling iron and some good light gel...Strand by strand apply the gel and curl the section of hair...
I also found this new really cool sounding technique with rags...I'm gonna try it out myself...But here the link..
ENJOY :)

it depends on how long your hair is. use a curling iron is the best way. separate the bottom hair and the top hair doing the bottom first, then let down the top and and do that. you must do pieces at a time. and since you claim to have straight hair you might want to hair spray the hair before you curl it so it stays put. also depending on your hair legnth, id say use a half in to an 1/2- an inch curling iron. be prepared it may take a while

The cheapest and easiest way is the one that my grandmother used on my hair as a child. She rolled strips of newspaper . After washing my hair, she rinsed it with beer and towelled it . Then she rolled the strands around the strips of paper, folded the ends over and secured with paper clips. Then she blow dried it all.
Nowadays I would use hair gel rather than beer, but the principle is the same and you can make really tight curls by using thinner strips. I would be tempted to use pipe cleaners, they are thin and they bend easily so you can secure them without the paper clips.

Hair curlers or a curling wand usually works. It won't be permanent, but will definitely work for awhile.
