Where to start. Water is a limited commodity, and as much as we need it for crops and livestock, natural ecosystems need it also to support fish, plants and microorganisms.
Challenge 1: How to provide an adequate water supply to farmers who can effieciently use it for agriculture or livestock, while at the same time balancing the needs of spawning fish and wildlife so as not to cause a collapse of strained ecosystems.
Challenge 2: How do we control the amount of runoff produced by the use of water, fertilizers and pesticides in farming. Many fertilizers and pesticides end up filtering into streams and creeks and polluting the water.
Challenge 3: How to manage wastewater produced by residences, businesses and runoff so that it doesnt contaminate the water supply for any other uses.
