Ever hear the phrase "The Few, The Proud"?? It doesn't say the gold diggers or greedy.
All men are not created equal. Only the best go on to become Marines. "God, Corps, Country", this is what being a Marine is all about. Anyone anywhere knows a U.S. Marine just by the uniform alone. That is because the honor is so incredibly great to be known not as an army of one, but rather known as one of the few.

Because they want men not little boy's that need to be bribed into serving their country. The Marines have been reduced to the point of being a boy scout because of political correctness of all the mommies of the United States worried about their little boy being yelled at and other disciplines The Marines are no longer as proud as it once was. The Marines are still the best test of a man. A Marine still will be all he can be. Thank God for the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Long live George Bush!

Well for one if one department offered bonuses they all would have to offer them. The other reason is the Marine corps isn't an branch by its self. Like the Army, Air force or Navy. The Marines corps is a department of the Navy. Yes they have their own rank structure, command group, but ultimately they follow Navy orders. That's why the highest general is called Commandant of the Marine Corps. All branches have a secretary assigned to their branch. Secretary of the Army, Secretary of the Navy.. not the corps. Hope it helps.

I hear its because there is an abundance of people wanting to join the Marines. They don't need to have a sign up bonus for persuasion.
If the sign up bonus is what you are looking for, go ARMY. They have huge bonuses depending on when you enlist, length of service and what job you do. Just don't go into thinking I am only here for the bonus because its not that great anyhow! You will only get a percentage up front (after you complete about a year of service) and then it is divided up amongst the remaining years of service you have.
Say you get a $12,000 bonus....first payment is $5,000 (of course you pay taxes on the $7,000 you would have gotten) and then you get about $1,000 (after taxes) each year after that...

Because it is an honor to be a MARINE. Most who join the MARINES join for the right reasons, where as those that join the Army are after the benefits. Plus, if you sign up for a bonus, you are obligated to serve your whole time.

Because they're the Marines. You don't sign up for the Marines because of the pay.

They are the only branch that always meets their recruitment quotas. They don't have to offer excessive incentives to get people to join.
