In 1926 The Chicago Tribune held a amateur Boxing Tournament and clear across the country in New York Daily News sports Editor Paul Gallico wanted to put on a similar Tournament in 1927 with the help of his good friend Police Capt. Joe "Irish" Patterson" they came up with the name "Golden Gloves."
Now at that time the Chicago Tribune owned the Daily News so it took over the name, at first it was just New York vs Chicago for a few years then the Tournament caught fire and other cities jumped in. Then the powers that be got together and decided to have a National Championship and that Champion would get a bye in the first round of every major Tournament from the PAL Championships, CYO and the Olympic Trials.
There are four division in the Golden Glove Tournament Novice, Senior Novice, Open and Masters in 1998 in Augusta, Georgia the first ever female National Golden Glove Tournament was held.
The Golden Glove Tournament is the best amateur Boxing venue around, each year it keeps thousands of young men and women off the streets and gives them something to look forward to and if you win the Golden Glove Tournament you will be able to call yourself a "Golden Glove Champion" and nobody can ever take that away from you.

The Golden Gloves is a yearly amateur boxing competition. The winner from each state competes in the National Golden Gloves competition. There they compete for the national championship. (Sorry if what I said doesn't make sense just now drinking my first cup of coffee)
