It all depends on what is causing the eye problems. I have been dealing with an eye disease for the last 2 years. Mine has to do with the corneas. I have had 2 corneal transplants along with removal of cataracts, and laser surgery to improve vision after the cataract surgery. I never lost my sight, everything just got blurry. I still have blurry vision in my left eye but great vision in my right. I will be having at least one more laser surgery to help correct the vision in my left eye. Your dog can live a fairly normal life. Keep it in familiar surroundings, don't rearrange the furniture. He will learn to recognize where things are and how to maneuver around them. Hug that precious pooch for me.

My dog was 14 yrs old and had cataracts. One eye he was completely blind in and the other had a little vision. He could always find his way around because he was familiar with his path, but as the vision loss progressed he would only get up when necessary. It is very hard on a dog (as with a person) when they can no longer do the things they used to. Because of his age, he passed away peacefully in his sleep before he began to suffer . I would reccomend having him seem by a vet to see if the problem can be fixed. If he is an older dog and they can do nothing for him, try making his time as peaceful and loving as possible. Help him to his feed bowl and outside and give him praise so he does not feel like he is letting you down. I hope this helps a little and that your dog feels better.

What your dog sees maybe differ from other dogs. Its sight loss could be from old age, poor nutrition as a puppy, in its genes, or has cataracts. There are tests vets can do to tell a little degree on how much your dog can see. But as long as you don['t move the furniture, the dog can adapt to his blindness and be happy.

i'm sure what they see varies according to the degree of blindness. My blind poodle could navigate aroung the house just fine and had a great quality of life until the end. She became blind slowly and adapted well.

Here is a link to a blind dog support list - they should be able to help you help your dog adapt. They also may have vet referrals if you need more than a GP vet for care if the problem is treatable.

Get to your vet. Don't try to diagnose health problems unless your qualified to do so. You are dealing with life.

I would take your dog to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist to diagnose his problem

I don't really know but have you taken him to a vet. If its a cataract they can remove it.
