Because I'm really getting the feeling that some people see it more like a magical box, and aren't "seeing" the paper and ink and general 'bookieness' of it...
Not to be rude or anything, just wondering...

Do people really see water as wet? Cause I'm really getting the feeling that some people see it more like a drink to sustain life and aren't "seeing" the color and place for fish to live...
just wondering...

Agreed! Too many people think of their Bible as a "holy book" to be used to keep county fair ribbons and photographs in, or worse, as a holy totem to keep at their nightstand to make them feel better about themselves.
Ya gotta READ it. Ya gotta UNDERSTAND what you're reading. It helps to join a Bible study group.

Not trying to put down anyone's religion, just as a Historian:
"bible" [ME fr. OF, fr. ML "biblia", fr Gk, pl of "biblion"="book", dim of "byblos", ancient Phoenician city from which papyrus was exported.] Basically, Bible does just mean "book". Sorry.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just a book, and at a friends place (she lost her faith a while ago) her bible is a doorstop.
I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but it's her bible, her choice!

It definetely has all the characteristics of a book: pages, authors, page numbers, front and back coverings, and a table of contents

Taurus Fire Bull,
It's a book of books. It also has some very important 'epistles' (letters) in it. I am telling you the truth; in it is the way to eternal life. And I am convinced of it.
