How do you think he got into movies in the first place??? He's not some actor that learned a few fancy moves. He was a national forms champion. He was an accomplished martial artist, and that's what got him into movies...

Jet Li was a 4 time Wushu champion in China, and he's been training in Martial Arts since he was at least 8yrs old and now he's in his mid 40's, so I think that would more than qualify him being a Martial Artist.

As for acting he's been in well over 30 movies including at least 5 or more produced here in the States so he's also an accomplished actor as well.

AnY fight you see in ANY movie is going to be choreographed to minimize the chances of injury to either the stuntmen or the stars of the movie so anyone saying that the techniques he uses in his movies would cost him a fight either don't know Martial Arts, or just don't like him as an actor.

So yeah they're talkin' out their a**es because I do believe that he could hold his own in a fight just as any other Martial Artist turned actor could, because that's what got them into the business in the first place, their abilities they learned through Martial Arts.

DUDE! Jet Li is a real martial artist! Yeah, he's an actor too. But he is a real martial artist! But, his scenes doe have to be choreographed, he can't just go improv it would make his scenes really crazy.

I agree with you... See his turining kick for example, he twists in his hips to kick which is the correct method, unlike marely swinging in the leg....

Yes his fights are choreographed, but so is Jackie Chan's and Bruce Lee's! People don't get it... big fight scenes help make the movie attractive, thats all... they have no right to claim that Jet Li isn't a real Martial Artist...

Jet Li was a real marshal artist before he started doing movies. Jet Li was Wu Shu (a martial art) world champion several times. He got his first part as a shao lin disciple in the film of the same name. He first attempt at directing, Zhong hua ying xiong (1986) (Born to defend), met with failure. He is the biggest Asian movie star after Jackie Chan. Jet Li started training at the Beijing wushu academy at age eight (wushu is China's national sport, largely a performance version of various martial art styles), and won five gold medals in the Chinese championships, his first when he was only 11. In his teens, he was already a national coach, and before he was 20, he had starred in his first movie: _Shao Lin tzu (1979)_ (Shaolin Temple), which started the 1980s Kung-Fu boom in mainland China. He relocated to Hong Kong, where he was the biggest star of the early 1990s Kung-Fu boom as well.

He was selected shortly after completing school to play a simple roll in a chinese film after a producer saw him fight on tv at a minor competitive event. from the moment he hit camera he liked it and was able instantly to act. He later came to america to sign a large contract and has starred in many movies since. Martial arts master, then actor.
