I know this isn't a question but I figured I would put this here.
If you did answer my question about how religion as we know it could just be a cult, then thank you.
This was partly my opinion, part experiment.
I find it interesting how people are willing to completely trust something that shows no proof of existing. How strong people's faith is and how it can completely thwart their views on reality. It taints their thoughts, for the good and bad. How they won't even acknowledge what is so plainly obvious.
That question was intended to step on toes, provoke anger, and most importantly, deep thought.
I found it interesting that many of those that agreed with me were Pagans, those said to be EVIL. Yet, ironically, that religion, which if you Christians took time to look into, is the most accepting of people, the one that doesn't judge.
For those answered or even just viewed my question, thank you. If anyone has any opinions on it still, go ahead and put it here.

Hmm...interesting. Because I bash all christianity, I am a bigot but if you are a christian and bash all the other religions, you are spiritual?
And if anyone still does want to reply to my other post, you can do it here. I closed it because someone answered so perfectly, I couldn't help but give him the ten points.
All opinions are welcome here.

TO ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS:
Pagans are constantly refered to in the bible. Wicca is a sect of it (like Lutherin is a sect of Christianity) and they are sometimes refered to as witches.
And think about it, when Christianity first started (and it even says this in the bible) the believers were few. Thus the members were often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader (Christ).
And in the beginning, this was considered to be false, unorthidox, etc.
So to be honest, I meant both, King Reef.

(why do I always have long winded details?)
Anyway, I have a quote for you, Vesna. I don't recall who said it, however. "The absence of proof is all the proof I need".
And I am not against christians as people, only as religion. If that makes any sense. And Yahoo!Answers is all about stating you opinions. I am not trying to force my opinion on you. If you don't like it, fine. You have every right. I am only stating my beliefs, as you have stated yours. You are free to do so as well.

Really everyone, I am sorry about the lengths of my details. It is rediculous.
I do not follow any religion. I only pointed out the pagans because that was the most I saw. Christians and Pagans.
I also wasn't only talking about christianity. I was talking about all religions. I only referenced christianity because it is the most well known, and the one that I got the most anger out of.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH COMPLETE FAITH IN YOUR RELIGION: I admire you. I do. I wish that I too could trust something completely. I wish I could believe that whatever God there is is evident in everyday life. I envy your complete faith. I tried to find a religion that I compltetely trusted...christianity, Judeism (sp?), paganism, Islamic...but nothing worked.

Ugh...more details.
Ok, I DO want other's opinions. While why I chose the best for the other is no one's concern, it did stand out. It didn't just agree, nor did it disagree. It just stated an interesting point.
I want people to state how they feel. Not accuse me of being ignorant, sacreligious, etc. That's what people are doing. I want people to just ponder this. Then say what they think. I won't choose someone who simply agrees with me. If you make a concrete arguement against my statement, without quoting the bible or accusing me of things, then you would be chosen as best answer.

Well I can’t find any evidence that you were actually seeking genuine opinions. You simply wanted people to respond why agree with your opinion, as evidenced by your selected best answer.
Perhaps you should try being honest with yourself. You’re really not seeking other opinions are you?
As for proof of my Faith, the Spirit gives me all that I need. The love and guidance I receive is everything I need and more. I realize you won’t understand, but there’s nothing I can do about that.

I believe that almost any religion can become a Cult. They might be designed that way, or it might just be a part of human nature. I do believe that most religions where started to form some sort of population control. So in that sense, anything deviating from the dominant religion of an area could be considered cults. That is why the crusades where fought, that is why the Roman Catholic church spent millions on sending missionaries around the world to "educate" the barbarians. These are my thoughts, not shared by all, but they are mine. Jacob the atheist.

it is real that we've self belief in the Bible. it is likewise real that there is ritual. by definitions a million and 2, i will see the place Christianity may be seen a cult. the main concentration of Christianity isn't faith nevertheless. the main concentration is a private courting with Jesus Christ. Rituals are no longer substantial as much as asking Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. enable's say selection 3 nevertheless. it quite is greater what i think of a cult is. A cult may be seen unorthodox or spurious in the event that they redefined who Jesus is. LDS and JW are unorthodox in this way.

Being a pagan is just as foolish as being a Christian. Both faiths reject existence, the value of the human mind, and our prime faculty to understand the world and improve ourselves: reason. Doing so reduces people to the state of slow death, encourages them not to think but to obey, and leaves them susceptible to participation in violent acts, bullying, and begging, rather than real values of life such as fair trade, justice, honesty, hard work and happiness.

Well i find your conclusions interesting. You say you find it hard to believe that people can believe in something without any conclusive evidence, yet you believe that ther is no God ,wheres the conclusive evidence for that, its only scientific opinion,as opposed to clerical opinion.
Surely until the evidence is more conclusive, you would be better saying you were an agnostic ,and unsure.

No
Didn't see it.
But all organized things are a cult, including religions and non-religions.
Communism, the most DEVOTE of Atheists, are the biggest cult!
For a while 1/4 the world was held captive by this cult.
This cult that promised a UTOPIA with no govenment.
Thank goodness the religious people of the world finally prevailed and returned control of Poland, Hungary, Boznia, Croatia and Serbia back to the people and the religions they were starved to practise.
It's unfortunate that 1/6 the world is still in the hands of those evil Athiest Commie cults in China, Vietnam, North Korea (with their new Nukes and Missles to deliver them) and Cuba.
What do you think of them cults!
I had relatives in Romania, and the WHOLE FAMILY could never travel outside of Romania. If husband and wife came to America for a vist or work (he was a Chess Grand MAster, she was a stage Actor) the KIDS had to stay home.
If SHE and the KIDS came, he had to stay home.
They couldn't talk of subjects like EASTER in front of the kids, for fear the kids would turn them in to authorties and they would be taken to a "re-education center."
Yes, that's how the EVIL Atheist cults practise their belief system. With fear and hatred and brainwashing re-education centers, called, I beleive, Gulags.
I recently saw one Chinese woman who was held in a Chinese Prison for preaching Christianity in China. That's how true Atheists deal with Christians, they throw them in jail. That's the Athiest way!

I did answer and was not offended by the question. As an elderly, I have long since given up on believing that man and his tolerance for others causes anything but trouble. I prefer to live my life trusting someone who doesn't lie to me on a regular basis.

Smo,
Well, since 'cult' means:
a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
Then I would agree to that notion.
But if cult means:
a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
Then as far as the Christianity that I believe in, I would have to disagree with that summation.
It doesn't anger me. I find the question a bit obtuse.

If a Christian slags off anyone else, they are not being spiritual at all. We are only allowed to make judgements within the Church, not on those outside. And those judgements are limited. We have to expel anyone who calls themselves Christian but live immorally, and we have to settle disputes between ourselves.
Love all, forgive all, show mercy, judge no-one

We Christians are accepting of people, we are not accepting of sin. This might be a concept that you have trouble with, we love sinners but hate sin. Can you accept that? We understand that we are human and only God is man/woman's final judge, but that does not mean that we do not have a responisbility to point out when someone is placing their soul in danger and try to help them, it is called charity.
If your intentions are to "step on toes, provoke anger, and most importantly, deep thought" please know that it is unlikly that deep thought will be inspired by anger.
Thank you.
