My family has cut out all refined sugar and when we bake we use unrefined sugar. Also as a rule, we eat no candy...but when we start craving something sweet, I keep homemade dehydrated fruit around (the stuff you buy at the store usually has added sugar) and that takes care of the sweet tooth. Refined sugars take your body up to 12-24 hours to process where as unrefined sugar or cane sugar only takes 3-4 hours to process. It is also safe for people with diabetes to use. Plus all of the sugar subsitiues will in the long term proably make you more sick.

First, I'll state the obvious--stay away from products containing sugar. The basics are: eat lots of fruit--especially berries which are lower in natural sugar, eat lots of vegetables and meat is ok in moderation. The biggest problem for most people are grains. Move away from processed grains and toward whole grains. Ideally, you should try sprouted grains for bread. Learn the glycemic index. It will be your best friend. For example, stevia (an herb) and agave (it's like honey from a cactus) are sweeteners that have a low glycemic index.

If you are asking this to reduce your weight, then let me tell you that sugar only never responsible for weight gaining. Sugar in our food is rich source of carbohydrates as Sucrose. Which is essential to get required daily calories.
Still if you want to reduce it then you have an option of using "Artificial sweeteners" or "sweetening agents" For exa.. Cyclamate, Saccharin, Stevia,Aspartame, etc. These sweeteners are as sweet as or sometimes more sweeter than normal sugar (aspartame 500 time more sweeter than our table sugar), still have less or no calories in it.Science has proved that more use of this product is not healthy.
So here i am suggesting you to use Honey, Dates/Khajur ( Make Paste)to sweeten your food. Which are healthy to have and more preferable over sugar.
If you doesn't like this then the BEST way to reduce your sugar intake is, Decide your daily requirement of sugar in food in Grams as less as possible. (You can decide it by knowing 1 gram of sugar = 4 KCal). Suppose you have to gain only 150 Kcal from only sugar then weigh exactly 20 gm of sugar and use that much of sugar for whole day, where ever you need it, like tea, milk, any sweet dish. Remember that you have to manage within that much amount of sugar for whole day. In beginning this may be difficult for you, but it really works. Try it.
