I used to be really thin, even after I had my children. But after I stopped the depo- provera shot , even though it's been 9 years ago, it's hard to lose weight!!! I've tried cutting back exercise , and sheer willpower which I don't have enough of anymore! What can I do? My problem areas are , stomach , thighs , and arms, and eating at night!! It's hard for me and I don't want to take any diet pills , they have serious side effects, and I don't want to get a reaction. Any positive ideas will be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Eating too much isn't necessarily your problem as that was not my problem with Depo. Depo is a synthetic hormone that CAN CAUSE YOU TO GAIN WEIGHT WHILE YOU ARE TAKING IT AND UNTIL IT CLEARS OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM. Only an ignorant jerk would say otherwise. I have an an extremely bad experience with Depo. Keep working with your Doctor. The only thing that worked for me to take off the weight was exercise 3-4 times a week for at least a half hour. You need to sweat to get your metobolism up. It sucks, but that's the way it is especially as we get older. This is my Depo story:
I've been off the Depo Provera since 2000 and my hair still hasn't grown all the way back. I lost about a 1/4 inch along most of my front hair line. The rest of my hair came back and is thick and strong, but the hairline is awful compared to what it was. In addition to the severe hair loss, I gained over 40 pounds, 20 while taking Depo and 20 after coming off. I never had a migraine before Depo and during use and for the first year after being off it, I had severe migraines at least once a week. My skin itched like I wanted to rip it off and I was hot all the time. I would get extreme vertigo with no warning. Just try staggering at work or while in the pharmacy and not look like you had a drinking problem! A little over a year after coming off the Depo Provera, I developed two serious blood clots one after the other. The cause was never completely determined because I had not been on birth control of any kind for over a year and my blood tests were normal. I finally had a rib removed and the clots stopped, but I will contend to this day the Depo had at least a little something to do with it. About the same time as the blood clots, I started having severe cramping and a year into it, my doctor found pretty severe endometriosis. With the resulting depression and the lack of sex from Depo you may not have to worry about getting pregnant because you won't want to have sex anyway. I know some people do just fine with this birth control, but it's not worth the chance. It takes upwards of 6 to 8 months for the effects to wear off and sometimes longer. My hair has never grown completely back along the hairline and I am having a hair transplant at a tune of $5,000.00 to fix it. I am only 35! I can't wait until Depo is researched more deeply and to someday find out what else this drug did to screw up my system. They ought to be ASHAMED!
I got the (copper) IUD (since I can't use hormones anymore due to future clotting risks). My insurance paid for it. You still get your period, but it's worth it. Sorry to have to say this, but our bodies are made to have periods unless we are pregnant. If you force your body into an unnatural state, it WILL fight back!

Don't take diet pills.
As we age it becomes harder to burn fat and build muscle. Muscles help burn fat 24 hours a day.
First make sure your typical meal is about 30% calories from fat.
Most meals are about that, but some cultures guzzle lard, so its good to check.
You probably need to exercise smarter.
Make sure you are really sweating when you work out(walking is not enough exercise in any way shape or form).

Try running 2 miles a day, 6 days per week.
Get clothes that keep you cool when working out.
Get a great pair of running sneakers.

Good Luck and stay motivated.

my parents lost a lot of weight by counting calories. it takes a lot of work, but it works. my mom did 1000 calories a day plus she worked out for 45 minutes. she didn't do anything hard, she would just walk 4 miles. sometimes only 3. she lost 50 pounds. but you have to count your drink calories too!! and just because things are fat free doesnt mean they're not fattening
