I went out with this guy for 3.5 years, and we haven't talked in months (his choice), and now he accepted my friend request over MySpace, and now I don't want to blow it. I sent him a message asking him why he wants to be friends now of all times. He signed up for the Navy and leaves in April for boot. How do I not push him away? I feel like this might be my last chance with him. I would move with him away on that big boat in a heartbeat ...

Relax and just be his friend. Let him make the moves. Guys need their space. If you pressure, it will push them away almost every time. Maybe that's why he went away the first time?

You could not push him away by being more supportive of him maybe? If you are the one that requested to be his friend, why did you question him of why he accepted? What else was he supposed to do? I don't understand.

I don't think it's really up to you to blow it or to hit it off. He already knows you really well, he now has an easy way to contact you, if has any interest in you he will pursue when he is ready to. Just be a good friend and let things run their course.

Slow down a minute he accepted you as a friend because he is leaving, he needs or is going to need to have a friend or two that is close to home to keep in touch with. Maybe in time and some chatting online may make things different or build a stronger friendship, but for now just take it for what is a friend needing a friend.

From experience he will forget you in boot and the next four years of his life. I married into Navy and for them it's one wild party once they get leave. And no "distance does not make the heart grow fonder"
