i thijnk im going to be getting a video camera soon so i can start making video blogs on stuff to put on youtube.
but whats the best type to get?
my mom said nothing too expensive either..

Do you already have a digital camera? The newer digital cameras have pretty good video modes (vga resolution at 30 fps) - that's good enough for video blogs & youtube, etc... By going this route, you also get the added benefit of not needing to transfer the video to your computer (which is a slow process).

The video quality on even the moderate cameras is pretty good these days. Mini DV is easy to capture into an editing program too. I've used Canon JVC, and Sony, and unless you opt for a more expensive 3CCD camera, they all are pretty similar. I would be looking for which features you want. Optical zoom ratings are important to me, but digital zoom is not useful. AV in, as well as out is another feature that I find useful when working with other equipment.

sony puts out some good ones, make sure you get the one that has night time vision ; )..
