For the record, tomato juice does NOT work. Skunk spray is an oil, and you must use something that will break down the oil in order to get rid of the smell. This is a recipe we recommend at my work
1qt hydrogen peroxide
1 cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap
Mix together and apply to dog when she is dry, let sit for 10 minutes, rinse with water. May need to repeat on area where spray actually hit, usually around face or neck.

my dog also got sprayed by a skunk point blank and it really stunk so bad that it brought tears to your eyes just to get near it. I tried every kind of shampoo in the house but this did not work. I then tried tomato juice like everyone says will work. I tried a 100 oz. can and this did not work. I then tried a 100 oz can of spaghetti sauce(I own a restaurant) and that didn't work either. I was frustrated and looking around the bathroom after I had finished rinsing out the spag sauce for something that might work and my eyes stopped on the right guard solid stick. I smeared the whole stick all over the dog(german shepard) until it was a gooey mess. I let it sit for about an hour, much to the chagrin of the dog and then shampooed it out really thoroughly. Lo and behold, no more smell.p.s don't use the peroxide like someone suggested, peroxide is a type of bleach and it will harm your dog and discolor it's hair.

Bathe her in tomatoe juice. Pour it over her and if you can get a tub full to soak her in it it's even better. Otherwise, cans of tomatoe juice, pour it over and rub it in. Every time she gets wet it will smell a little, but the tomatoe juice works best. Use the cheapest cans from the store. It will work! Our lab got skunked several times in a row!

Bathe the dog with tons of tomato juice. Dont ask me why but there is something in tomato juice that is supposed to get rid of the smell. If you also have a petsmart near you go to them in the grooming and they should have a deskunk shampoo, at least they did at the one I worked at.

For tonight, bathe her in tomato soup, that's what I found worked best anyway...
Campbell's tomato soup, straight out of the can. It doesn't smell great, but definitely better than skunk.
The smell is going to come back, though, so tomorrow, call a PetSmart Grooming Salon to schedule a De-Skunk bath.

bath her with scented dog shampoo.wet her, lather her and wait 4 5 mins, then wash her thouroughly and repeat.after drying, use scented dog powder and brush her thouroughly.if she doesnt smell good after this, she has got sprayed bad.also u could use tomato juice.and do not use peroxide like someone else told u 2.it is like pouring acid on ur dog.uit will bleach her fur and spoil her skin.u could also go 2 a grooming salon and get a d-skunk bath.hope this works.if it doesnt,i feel sorry 4 u.

She needs a bath in lemon juice or tomato juice.( Maybe several bathes.) Also you can buy a commercial shampoo to remove the smell at like petsmart or petco.

The old tomato juice remedy helps, so does baking soda and peroxide. There are shampoos specifically designed to remove skund odor. Nothing totally removes that awfull smell, but all of the above help. I feel for your nose!
