You have to sweat it out to lose 40lbs. First, aside from dieting, engage yourself in an exercise program. Choose an exercise in which you will enjoy and a friend or a member of the family who also wants to loose weight can be a buddy. Sometimes, it is hard to have an exercise program by yourself! If you have a buddy system, with the same goal, there will be more fun.

Exercise to be effective should be 30 minutes 3x a week, then as time goes by you can increase it to daily. You can do it MWF or TTHS!
You will only see the result of continuous exercise after 6 weeks. Dont weigh yourself daily, it will only disappoint you. Start with walking in the park, start first with 15 minutes then increase it daily until you become accustomed to 30 minutes a day. You can go dancing at home or go jogging around. If you are into sports, then go ahead! Discipline is very important if you really want to loose weight. I have a patient who lost 20-30 pounds by playing badminton daily.

Aside from the exercise, diet is also important. Diet doesnt mean you will not eat. Skipping meals will defeat the purpose of dieting and you tend to overeat the next time you eat. Eat small frequent feedings. Have breakfast! It keeps you going the whole day. Have crackers for snacks! Avoid chocolates! You can have oatmeal but not daily, it is good for the heart but if taken for a long time, it might increase your uric acid. Drink nonfat milk instead of softdrinks. Drink a lot of water, 8-10 glasses of water is our normal requirement. Abstain from softdrinks, if you cant take diet ones. Avoid junkfoods. If you want burgers, take the regular burgers and the quarter pounder. The more ingredients there are , the more the calories to it. Eat what you are eating before but try to cut down. If you are eating rice, try to measure, 1 cup per meal.

it does depend on the person, people who have a lot to lose often see results really quickly. I was told by a fitness instructor that if you don't see any change in 12 weeks it's time to modify the program, until then don't sweat it. If your getting results in five days good for you!
Keep with it, just make sure your eating healthy and getting moderate exercise. Good luck.

Make small, gradual changes and over time, they will have an extremely powerful effect on you.

Check out http://www.obesitykills.iconfessional.com . The guy there is an ex-Marine, like myself, and he's putting together a program for himself in his blog that will get him back into shape. It will work for pretty much anyone and he's doing it all publically.

He's not selling anything, just sharing what he's doing as he does it. He's hoping for encouragement and motivation from his readers.

Hope that helps.

Its safest to lose a kilo a week. If you are quite large {not trying to sound rude} your friends will really begin to notice your weight loss when you reach about 10 kilos loss. You will notice weight loss within 2kgs.Good luck.
