We didn't have to. He has always been God.

Well for starters Jesus is the son of God. How could we as humans create anything. Is that not God's duty... creator of Heaven and Earth? So how are we capable of creating anything? Jesus was a prophet and not a God. How do you make out a prophet to be a God?
