Most athiests are not really non believers--- but gnostics, agnostics and skeptics. The cloak of "atheism" gives them a feeling of sophistication. Atleast in their minds.

I am a spiritual agnostic, meaning I don't believe in god while still questioning the possibility of his existence but I have my own spiritual beliefs that are connected with no religion. Since this is the religion and SPIRITUALITY category I come here to answer questions about religion and you guessed it, spirituality. An important distinction exists between spirituality in religion and spirituality as opposed to religion. I am not seeking answers about god and I am not looking for any guidance, I have never been uncertain in my convictions...I come here to this category to learn and share my personal knowledge/opinion of both subjects as is my priviledge and right. There may be others athiests, agnostics whatever that are rude and obnoxious in this category but it is unfair to stereotype and people of all faiths/beliefs/religions or lack thereof are all welcome here to ask and answer questions.
PS I dont only answer questions in this category, I also frequent many other subjects which interest me, and I like to learn about everything. Just because I dont believe in god, doesnt mean I cant answer questions in this category....

I am not atheist but I don't like most religions (well the ones that practice fundamentalism). However, I do find it an interesting subject. I try to be sensitive about it because it is a very sensitive subject, but since I have a negative experience growing up in religious home I do sometimes find it hard to keep emotion out of it. Usually though when I do talk to someone who is intelligent about religion they usually shape my thinking in some way that makes me examine life, people, and religion. I like it when I can get in a serious discussion with someone who is religious but also intelligent that can make me think. Many times I have been caught in conversation I wish I could get out of. I hope in someways I cause the other people to examine their faith and maybe gain some higher understanding of what religion is compared to their faith. I am not out to be change peoples beliefs I just feel that with an understanding of other points of view on matters of faith, it can either make your belief stronger or help you seek a greater understanding of the world.

I'm an atheist and I answer questions in the religious section because I want to. I also answer questions in other categories. I don't have to be a football fan to answer a question in that category, etc. I do not go to the religious section to try to seek answers about God and find some guidance. That is just silly. I don't care about seeking attention and I am not bored with other questions. Do you have any other questions? I'm here strictly for entertainment. That's it.

In order:
1. I come here, even though I am an atheist, because I am still interested in other people's opinions. I come here because I like to express my opinions on the subject of religion, and to make people think about their beliefs.
2. Yes, I am really an atheist. I got all the guidance I needed during the first 18 years of my life. As a result, I probably know as much or more about Christianity than half the Christians on here.
3. Sure. I like to have people respond to my answers and questions. It lets me know that other people are paying attention to what I have to say. Nothing wrong with that.
4. No, I am not particularly bored with any of the other boards; I was just in the entertainment section earlier tonight, and in the crafts section yesterday. I come here because I am interested in what is said here and to express my opinions.

I didn't go into the religion and spirituality category. Your question appeared on the main "open questions" page. That's the answer to your first question. The second one: I'm not atheist but agnostic. I don't need guidance from something that I'm not sure exists. Third one: No, I get plenty of attention from people in my actual life. Fourth: Many of the questions are boring and/or stupid but I'm willing to weed through them to find decent ones to answer. Have a good day!

To tell you the truth, and I don't mean this to be offensive, but it's kind of like watching children play with dolls/action figures. Anything and everything logical and illogical can happen as imagination dances in and out of reality. Barbies become princesses and marry GI Joes who kick Matchbook cars into outer space. Faith treads in the same water. I think it makes us feel totally relieved to be rooted in logic.

I don't claim to be an athiest. I am an atheist. I love the R+S section because it gives us the opportunity to educate theists on what we believe. We don't have our own TV stations or go door to door you know. If it were left up to the herders and holy books for you to get your education about what we believe then you would consider us fools, evil people and/or ignorant of the tenets of your cults.
I also may hear some argument or find out some information that I didn't learn about in the more than half of my life that I was a Christian or in my extensive studies that led to my deconversion out of the cult.

to expose the facts basically, Im not atheist Im agnostic, I guess that makes me middle ground. I am not one sided, if someone has a good and truthful point with theorys or facts to back up their question with, and assuming I agree, I will support them with facts and an answer to back that up, If not then I like to provide a few facts to disproove whatever misconception they may have. Im not a spiritual person this is true, but honestly in order to figure out what I believe in I would prefer to seek out what is truth for myself and what has been engrained in me from my youth ( grew up in christian environment) I prefer not to believe in any document that has been re written in different languages and changed to fit whatever conception a person has of religion. the bible was written by man so I do not believe that the bible is truth, its not an accurate source, and mostly based on visions, dreams, and stories with a moral to the end, Even if I did believe in god I dont think I would believe in the bible. Christians are very close minded and wont accept anything except for what they have been taught. The bible has many missing books, so how can one follow the bible knowing that there are missing links (ie the missing years of jesus life from his teen years to his early thirties)They choose to follow blindly without questioning what they have been told. Basically my main goal behind being in the religious section is to open christians up to new possibilities based on facts. Im not trying to change anyones religion or convert them to my beliefs. I have a problem with christians because they refuse to believe that jesus could have been married and had children... But can you honestly say that those missing books of the bible didnt contain this information. There are to many missing links) Im not saying I do or dont believe in god, Im just here to question and do research and answer to the best of my ability to what I have read and or saw. I would like to see more christians up, they dont have to be so open as to think there may not be a god, because I dont honestly know if there is or isnt, But my goal is to provide a good arguement with facts and from what I have read so that christians open up and when they refuse to believe anything other than what they have been taught. Much of jesus's life is a mystery. They follow out of fear, that they wont go to heaven, they want something to believe in, I dont believe in something unless I come to my own conclusions, but I choose to question my surroundings and history... I think its conceited and close minded to not open up to new possibilities... I dont honestly know If that is a good enough answer for you but I tried to explain things the best I could. Thats why I am here.

I am not athiest, however I believe the best thing in this world is for all people to share their ideas. If Athiest only stuck with themselves and religious people only stuck to themselves, no one would learn anything from eachother. This would create even more steriotypes and hatred caused by misunderstanding.
By getting answers from all people, all groups, all people, we can all get a better view of the world creating a much better world.
I believe that if we all are able to share ideas and understand eachother with an open mind, the word war would not exist.

I find religion incredibly interesting. Not just the lack of my own religion, but your belief in yours. I'd hate to make an uninformed decision on something as important as religion. So getting as many opinions as possible seems advantageous. Good luck.
