I cant believe some of the answers to this question. The response there is only a 1 % chance of getting the virus is crap. Yes, it has to get into your bloodstream, but, there are so many ways it can get in it, that the 1 % is crap. Im sorry, but my exhusband has the virus, and I dont, and its ignorance like that that people end up contracting the disease. As for the other response, there is so many websites, do the search on your own time, why are you even looking at these question? This person is asking for help. Maybe this person doesnt understand what the websites are saying so they need it explained a little better. So here goes: HIV has to get into the bloodstream. It has been found in tears and saliva, but only a small amount and has not been proven to cause infection. Also, oral sex should be avoided also, because the infected person can pass it on to a non infected person if they have bad oral hygiene such as bleeding gums, or sores in their mouth, and etc.... The female skin in the sexual area is so thin, you may have the smallest tear down there, and not even know it. You should always have protected sex, if your going to have sex inorder to avoid the virus. It is harder for a man to get hiv from a woman than it is a woman to get it from a man, BUT it still happens. My exhusband contracted it through sex, so never use that as a reason. Symptoms of hiv can take up to 10 years to show any signs. You can not look at someone and tell that they have hiv. Symptoms of the virus are: Rash, mononucleous, thrush on the tongue, irregular monthly periods, unexplained weightloss, a dry, persistant cough, night sweats ( when you wake up from your sleep and your sweating) and more. Im not a "Nurse" but I am a PRE-MEDICINE major, some people may think some questions on here are dumb, but ask them anyways. If asking a dumb question prevents you from making a big mistake, then never be afraid. This is the HIV virus, and while it is no longer a death threat as it used to be, some of you people answering posts regarding HIV, need to take it a little more seriously. This is still a serious disease, that has serious consequences.

Yeah, like the guy said there are only a million and a half websites about HIV and AIDS. Due to the fact that the information is very lengthy, I suggest you do your own search on your own time.

I can tell you this...it is extremely (emphasis on extremely) difficult to acquire...extremely. So hard to acquire, its only about a 1% chance if someone with HIV gets their blood into an open would of your own, to obtain HIV urself.
