Most electronic components and all CRTs are considered hazardous waste. Unfortunately, in a lot of instances, the technology is advancing so quickly that donating the obsolete equipment isn't an option. Fortunately, most towns and cities that I am familiar with have specific locations set up to receive this type of refuse before it ends up in a land fill - and, eventually, in our water.

>>I don't care whether they developed smart-phones or any other gadgets I use today. All of that technology could have easily been developed by the private market<< But it wasn't, was it. >>Space travel is impossible to deep space according to NASA, and we won't even be close to the technology of living on another planet at least for another 1000 years.<< Oh yes, because that's the ONLY purpose of NASA, isn't it? Do you know what the first A in NASA stands for? I'll give you a clue: if you have ever flown you owe a large part of your safety to NASA. NASA is not just about space travel. The economic returns to your country have been HUGE, so stop complaining and whining about the TINY fraction of your taxes that is going to NASA. You waste more money yourself on frivolous entertainment like nights out or DVDs. >>Private corporations can fund what they deem useful to the average joe,<< Private corporations can fund what they think will make them the most profit. So tell us why private space research is still such a tiny business. Do you know, in fact, what NASA is planning to do after the shuttle is retired? I'll give you a clue: it involves a PRIVATE company called SpaceX and their Falcon rocket.
