Firstly "Truth" is objective. Something is either true or false. Knowledge of the truth is what forms the moral compass. Without formation a person leans toward immorality to different degrees, not always purposefully. It takes knowledge of truth applied to right reason and a decision of the will for one to be morally just. The degree to which one has been shown the truth is directly related to their culpability in moral decisions. A person is only responsible for what they are able to understand. Ignorance is to some extent an excuse, but not totally as some moral decisions are obvious; murder, lying and so on. Full knowledge of truth and willfulness to choose one's own moral path in spite of it is evil.

The open, remorseless disavowal of moral principles in various cultures, along with the open question for their justification, is ample evidence that they are not truly innate. Only the desires to achieve happiness and to avoid misery are both genuinely universal among human agents and practically effective in guiding our conduct. good question.

Some desolute characters have been brilliant. Sadly did they did not allow the truthes they exposed to apply to themselves - because they were desolute. The morality deadens the sensivitiy to see/understand how the truth applies personally.

I have seen some very naive moral people and some people that had a grasp on truth that weren't very moral.

Yes, profoundly...
Many people who are immoral are not possessed of the ability to discern right from wrong nor are they able to discern truth from lies...that is my opinion.

people who are or think they are good moral people, do not think that they need Jesus to get to heaven, they think that they can get there on their good works.
